Bungie Plans to Bring Back Destiny 2’s Vaulted Campaigns, Raids, Strikes, and Menagerie

Bungie says it’s moving ahead with a broad Destiny 2 unvaulting plan that would bring back the Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind campaigns, along with related strikes, raids, raid lairs, and the Menagerie activity.

The catch is timing. Bungie says the work is still in a pre-production and proof-of-work phase, expected to run until around January or February. After that, full production is currently expected to take about 12 months. So this isn’t something players should expect to appear in-game right away.

The first pass is planned to be available to all players and is focused on restoring major activity content from Destiny 2’s vaulted releases. Bungie’s current target includes:

  • Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind campaigns
  • Strikes tied to those releases
  • Raids and raid lairs from that era
  • Menagerie, with reprised rewards

Bungie is also looking at a few stretch goals, though those aren’t guaranteed for the initial unvaulting launch. That list includes free-roam destinations (with their public events, Lost Sectors, and Escalation Protocol), older seasonal activities from Season 9 through Season 23, updated raid and raid lair weapons, and PvP maps.

Some things are not currently on the table. Bungie said it doesn’t have a path right now for an updated New Light experience, seasonal story missions, the Kell’s Grave Gambit map, or old seasonal hubs like the Eliksni Quarter, citing technical and strategic limits.

The studio also said not to expect a big Destiny announcement at The Game Awards this year. The next major Destiny communication beat is being targeted for February, including updates on the unvaulting work and Bungie’s broader plans for Destiny’s future.
