Blizzard teams up with Korn for a new Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred music video
Blizzard has rolled out a new promotional music video for Diablo IV tied to its latest expansion, Lord of Hatred, and it features a new original song from Korn. The track is called Reward the Scars, and Blizzard says it marks the band’s first new music in more than four years.
According to the press announcement, the song was created specifically to promote Lord of Hatred. The crossover is a little unusual at first glance, but not completely out of nowhere, as Korn frontman Jonathan Davis is apparently a longtime Diablo fan.
The video leans hard into the series’ usual dark fantasy look, with Blizzard and Korn framing the song around the aftermath of violence, survival, and the cost of pushing through it. That fits neatly with Diablo IV, even if this is ultimately just a marketing tie-in for the expansion.
Lord of Hatred is the newest expansion for Blizzard’s action RPG, which continues the studio’s seasonal loot-grind formula with new content layered onto the base game. The source material here doesn’t go into expansion details beyond the music-video push, but Blizzard is clearly using the release to broaden the game’s promo beyond the usual trailers and patch notes.
The original report also notes that the video’s press materials included a lengthy list of production credits covering animators, artists, stylists, and crew. So while it’s a straightforward promo piece, it sounds like Blizzard put real effort into it.
