Blizzard has invited WoW Classic streamers to a mystery event, and fans think Classic Plus is next

Blizzard has invited several big World of Warcraft Classic creators to Irvine for a private event, and that alone has kicked off fresh speculation about a possible “Classic Plus” reveal. Xaryu confirmed on stream that he’d be visiting Blizzard for something he couldn’t talk about yet, and other Classic-focused names including Sodapoppin and Esfand are reportedly involved under NDA.

Nothing has been announced, and Blizzard still hasn’t said it’s making a Classic Plus version of WoW. But the guest list is what has people paying attention. These aren’t just general WoW creators. They’re closely tied to the Classic side of the game, which suggests Blizzard may be showing something beyond another straightforward re-release of older expansion content.

The idea of Classic Plus has been floating around for years. Usually, players mean a version of old-school WoW that keeps the original setting and systems but adds new updates, balance changes, or content instead of following the exact historical expansion path. Blizzard hasn’t confirmed that plan, though it has hinted that WoW Classic has a longer future than simple nostalgia tours.

There have been a few signs of that already. Season of Discovery took Classic in a much more experimental direction with class changes like healer mages and tank warlocks, and Blizzard has previously teased that it’s been working on the long-term future of WoW Classic. According to the report, Chinese players also have access to a version of WoW Classic that remixes older raid content.

That still doesn’t mean this mystery event is definitely Classic Plus. It could be another seasonal project, an expansion-era Classic update, or something smaller. But with Blizzard gathering prominent Classic creators ahead of BlizzCon in September, it’s easy to see why players think an announcement may be coming soon.
