Arcany Is Dropping Its Campaign Membership Paywall on November 7

Arcany developer Polypoode is removing the cozy MMORPG’s membership paywall for the full campaign on Saturday, November 7. Once the change goes live, players will be able to access the game’s dungeons, quests, and skills without an active membership.

The studio says the decision came after Early Access feedback on Steam, where players pushed back on the subscription model being in place while the game is still early in development. Arcany’s membership will stick around, but as an optional support tier instead of a gate for campaign content.

Under the revised setup, membership will unlock extras like additional bank space, housing objects, and cosmetics. The developers said the original plan was meant to avoid microtransactions and DLC, taking some inspiration from Old School RuneScape’s subscription model, but acknowledged that many players didn’t feel it fit the game’s current state.

The team also says server infrastructure changes are needed before the free access update can roll out, which is why the switch is scheduled for November 7.

Polypoode is preparing a Kickstarter campaign to launch alongside the free update, with the goal of helping the two-person team work on Arcany full-time. The campaign page is already live on Kickstarter.
