AION 2 Western Release Will Have Optional $15 Subscription and Cosmetic Shop

NC has shared a new developer video for AION 2, giving players another look at Atreia, the MMO’s classes, and its flight-focused open world. The bigger news for Western players, though, is monetization. The Western version won’t require a subscription when it launches in September 2026.

Instead, AION 2 will use a cosmetic cash shop, with items like outfits, wings, and pets. NC says those purchases won’t include stats or gameplay bonuses. The game will also have a battle pass-style system with free and premium tracks, which is pretty standard territory for live service games at this point.

There will still be an optional subscription. In the West, it’ll cost $15, but NC hasn’t fully explained what players get for paying versus playing for free. NC America Executive Publishing Producer Merv Lee Kwai said the subscription “broadens your engagement across the game’s core systems” and unlocks full access to the player-driven economy.

That last part is the main unanswered question. If full access to the economy is tied to the subscription, players will want to know exactly what limits apply to free accounts. NC didn’t break that down in the video, so more details are likely coming closer to launch.

The Western setup is notably different from the version used in Korea and other Asian markets, where AION 2 has had a more complicated multi-tier subscription model. For now, NC seems to be signaling a simpler approach for the West: free to play, cosmetic purchases, a premium pass option, and a $15 subscription for players who want the extra access.
