God Eater Online was developed for mobile devices by Asobimo in collaboration with Bandai Namco, with Bandai Namco handling publishing. The project was first shown publicly at Tokyo Game Show 2016, then went through an open beta period spanning 2016 into 2017 before launching as a free-to-play release on iOS and Android.
Within the broader franchise, God Eater Online sits as the sixth entry in the God Eater series (or seventh when counting God Eater Mobile).
