Valiance Online
Valiance Online is an in-development superhero MMORPG built around player agency, where the community’s actions help shape the long-term state of San Cielo. Instead of locking you into a purely heroic or villainous mold, it encourages you to define your own morality, whether that means protecting citizens, chasing personal power, or operating in the gray area between the two.

Valiance Online Overview
Positioned as a spiritual follow-up to City of Heroes, Valiance Online aims to deliver a customizable cape-and-cowl MMO where identity is largely player-made. The setting imagines a world in which humanity has learned to channel magical energy so effectively that the line between technology and mysticism has blurred, making superhuman abilities attainable rather than mythical.
The action centers on San Cielo, a city designed to function as a persistent space that evolves with the community. In practice, the pitch is that the world does not simply wait for your next login, choices made by players are meant to influence how the city develops over time. Alignment is also flexible: you can pursue a classic hero route, lean into villainy, or play an opportunist who shifts priorities depending on the situation.
Character building starts with one of twelve archetypes, which helps define your general role, then expands through power customization so two characters in the same archetype can still feel meaningfully different. On the activity side, the game is structured like a traditional MMORPG, with solo content and cooperative challenges (including dungeons and raids), plus competitive options such as duels, arenas, and battleground-style PvP.
Valiance Online Key Features:
- Persistent World – San Cielo is designed to reflect player-driven outcomes, with changes that can continue even while you are offline.
- Variety of Archetypes – choose from multiple archetypes that support hybridized roles and different approaches to combat and teamwork.
- Tons of Superpowers – build around a large pool of abilities (over 90 powers) to craft distinct characters rather than standardized templates.
- Battleground and Arenas – test your build in PvP through duels and organized arena or battleground matches tied to control and reputation.
- Multiple PvE Modes – tackle content solo or group up for cooperative activities, including larger-scale encounters and raids.

Development History / Background:
Valiance Online is a PC MMO from SilverHelm Studios, which is also handling publishing for Steam. The project traces back to the team’s enthusiasm for City of Heroes and a desire to build a modern spiritual continuation of that style of superhero MMORPG, with flexible character creation and an emphasis on community impact.
Funding originally attempted to come through Kickstarter, which launched on October 29, 2014 with a $150,000 goal. After the game’s marketing manager stepped down shortly after the campaign began, the Kickstarter was ultimately cancelled on November 24, 2014, having reached $34,680 of the $150,000 target. Not long after, the game appeared on Steam Greenlight and continued forward using other funding sources.
An open pre-alpha arrived on December 13, 2014, and development has continued with ongoing updates. As of now, the project still does not list an estimated release date.
