Overview

Pangaea: New World Overview

Pangaea: New World is positioned as a survival MMO with light RPG progression layered over a post-apocalyptic setting. The pitch centers on long-distance travel and careful resource management across a large open world that stretches beyond 90km² (or ~60 miles), mixing dense greenery with dangerous wildlife, mutated threats, and opportunistic players. Rather than relying only on combat, the game leans on environmental danger and systemic consequences to keep moment-to-moment play tense.

One of the more distinctive hooks is the presence of anomalies scattered across the terrain. These phenomena are described as visually unusual pockets of danger that can act like traps, including effects such as electrical zones or distortions that interfere with how you perceive the world. They are meant to make exploration risky even when you are not actively fighting, and they evoke the kind of hazardous navigation that fans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-like worlds tend to enjoy.

The world is also framed as an interconnected ecosystem. Plants and animals are presented as part of a chain, so reckless hunting or wiping out a species does not simply reduce one enemy type, it can cascade into broader environmental changes. In theory, that makes survival choices matter beyond your inventory, and it gives the setting a more reactive feel than a typical static MMO zone.

Questing is described as a mix of NPC tasks and responsive objectives tied to shifting events. The idea is that incidents in the world, including violence against NPCs or attacks on settlements, can generate new problems that need to be addressed. Settlements themselves appear to be vulnerable to raids by hungry mutants, and losing a village is pitched as something that can ripple outward, changing local stability and political relationships.

Pangaea: New World Key Features:

  • Enormous World – travel through roughly 90km² (or ~60 miles) of wide-open terrain.
  • Interdependent Ecosystem – wildlife and plant life are linked, removing one piece can destabilize the rest.
  • Anomalies – locate bizarre hazard zones with varied effects, including storms and sensory distortion.
  • “Real Market” – exchange items and services with other players, including hiring someone to take action against another player.
  • Dynamic Quests – quests can be triggered and altered by world events, including personal tragedies that lead to revenge-driven objectives.

Development History / Background:

Pangaea: New World is being produced by the Russian independent team LVR Studio and is built with Unreal Engine 4. Early messaging from the developers indicated they did not intend to launch the project through an Early Access release. A Kickstarter campaign went live on November 25, 2015, then ended early when crowdfunding was cancelled on December 10, 2015. The project also appeared on Steam Greenlight on Septemeber 22, 2015 and was greenlit shortly after on September 24, 2015. At one point it was framed as targeting a release in the fourth quarter of 2016, but development was abandoned by September 27, 2015.
