Overview

Lineage 2: Revolution Overview

Lineage 2: Revolution is a mobile MMORPG from NetMarble, produced under license from NCSOFT as a companion-style entry in the broader Lineage series. Its biggest pitch is presentation, it uses Unreal Engine 4 to deliver dense environments, spell effects, and character models that aim closer to PC MMO standards than many mobile peers, while still being built around shorter sessions and simplified controls.

Rather than recreating the full complexity of classic Lineage 2 systems, Revolution packages the setting and familiar fantasy tone into a more accessible structure. Players pick from three archetypal roles (Warrior, Ranger, and Mage) and choose between four races (Human, Elf, Dark Elf, and Dwarf). The races are gender-locked, but unlike some earlier Lineage 2 adaptations, your race choice does not restrict your class, so you can mix any race with any of the three roles.

On the content side, the game emphasizes cooperative and competitive multiplayer: instanced group dungeons, character skill loadouts built around active abilities, and large battles such as siege warfare that are designed to be a headline activity for guilds and organized groups.

Lineage 2: Revolution Key Features:

  • Three Playable Classes – choose Warrior, Ranger, or Mage, each centered on a clear combat identity and a set of skills meant for quick, readable encounters.
  • Four Distinct Races play as Human, Elf, Dark Elf, or Dwarf (with gender-locked race options), then pair that choice with any of the available classes.
  • Lineage Franchise – explore a mobile take on the Lineage 2 world and lore, aimed at fans who want the setting in a more portable format.
  • Multiplayer Content – team up for party dungeons and step into massive siege battles that push the game’s large-scale PvP focus.
  • Detailed 3D Graphics – powered by Unreal Engine 4, with effects-heavy combat and environments that stand out for a phone-based MMO.

Development History / Background:

Lineage 2: Revolution (previously shown as Project S and later associated with the Dawn of Aden naming) is developed and published by NetMarble, a studio known for titles including Sudden Attack and Uncharted Waters Online. The project was created with NCSOFT’s approval, allowing NetMarble to build a mobile spin-off within the Lineage franchise. It sits alongside another mobile Lineage 2 project, Lineage 2: Blood Oath, as part of the brand’s push onto phones.

The game was first introduced on July 15, 2015 under the Project S label, positioned as a mobile interpretation of Lineage 2. It reappeared publicly on July 29, 2016 when a teaser site went live alongside a new reveal trailer using the full Lineage 2: Revolution name. Around that period, it was also shown as a playable build at a Google Play event in Seoul running from July 29 to August 24, 2016, before releasing in South Korea in December 2016. For the Western release, global pre-registration opened on September 15th, 2017, followed by the global English launch on November 15th, 2017.
