Kingdom Under Fire 2

Kingdom Under Fire 2 combines MMO-style progression with two separate gameplay layers: third-person action combat for your commander and a lighter RTS-like command component for allied troops. The outcome is a fantasy war experience where you’ll spend plenty of time cutting through mobs, but also issuing orders, adjusting unit placement, and responding to battlefield developments—especially once fights expand into sprawling, noisy mass battles.

Overview

Kingdom Under Fire 2 Overview

Kingdom Under Fire 2 is a 3D fantasy action-strategy MMORPG that launched on PC and PS4. Instead of portraying you as a lone adventurer, it positions you as a commander leading AI-controlled squads in major engagements. On the ground, you attack directly—swinging weapons, firing shots, and chaining abilities in brisk, crowd-oriented fights designed around a “one warrior versus many” rhythm. At the same time, the strategic layer has you fielding, rotating, and directing troops so you can answer enemy formations and unit types.

Character customization exists, though it’s fairly simple, leaning mostly on cosmetic choices such as hair, facial structure, and skin tone. The more meaningful decision is selecting a class, since that dictates your combat role, durability, positioning needs, and how well you handle pressure when battles spike and the screen becomes packed with foes. The game’s core identity is this constant shift between personal performance and managing the wider clash, pushing you to consider formations and counters rather than treating allied forces as mere scenery.

Kingdom Under Fire 2 Key Features:

  • Hack-and-slash style engagements – take control of a powerful commander built to thrive in large groups through combos and wide-reaching skills.
  • Strategy layer alongside RPG action – alternate between direct character control and an RTS-tinged command perspective to shape the overall battle.
  • Three Distinct Classes – pick Berserker, Gunslinger, or Spellsword, then customize your commander’s appearance.
  • Large-Scale PvP – fight in smaller modes or enter war-focused clashes where players and their armies collide for objectives.

Development History / Background:

Kingdom Under Fire 2 was co-developed by Blueside and Phantagram, studios connected to earlier entries in the Kingdom Under Fire series. It was first introduced in January 2008 as a “Multiplayer Online Action RTS” concept featuring both a story-driven mode and an ongoing online world, with early platform talk including PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Reports circulated in 2010 suggesting the project had hit serious trouble, tied to financial issues at Blueside, and for a time the game largely disappeared from the public conversation.

The project later re-emerged and continued toward release in Asia, but its schedule shifted repeatedly across several years. An IP-locked open beta began on May 22, 2014 in Asia, promoted as a persistent test without wipes. Even after that milestone, launch targets changed, and a wider release took longer than many expected, with plans described as rolling out region by region.

In an interview, Blueside CEO Lee Sang-youn stated that development costs exceeded 78 million.

After its long road, the game ultimately arrived globally in English via GameForge on November 14, 2019, before later shutting down on October 26, 2021.
