Moment to moment, the combat leaned into spectacle: big animations, satisfying ability effects, and a pace that rewarded aggressive play. It was designed for quick sessions, but it also tried to keep players around with a steady checklist of things to farm, improve, and optimize.
One of the most distinctive design choices was the three-character system. Luke, Khara, and Vango didn’t just feel like cosmetic swaps, they changed the rhythm of fights. Luke played like the reliable baseline, Khara pushed mobility and burst, and Vango emphasized commitment and impact. Being able to rotate between them helped reduce fatigue, and it also gave you a reason to keep multiple kits geared. The downside was that it could feel like maintaining three separate progress tracks, especially once upgrades became more resource-intensive.
PvE content followed a familiar structure for the genre. The campaign guided you through encounters that escalated into tougher instanced battles, and the real grind lived in dungeons and group bosses. This is where the loot economy took over: constant drops, constant comparisons, and frequent trips back into enhancement menus. EvilBane: Reboot, also known earlier as EvilBane: Rise of the Ravens, was both developed and published by Netmarble, a South Korean mobile game company recognized for operating at the top tier of the mobile market and associated with titles such as Sudden Attack and GunZ: The Duel. The project first launched in Korea under the name Raven (레이븐), supported by a cinematic reveal trailer in December 2014 that emphasized a high-end, console-like experience on mobile devices. It officially released on May 12, 2015 and quickly rose to the top of the Korean charts on both iOS and Android. A global rollout followed the next year under the rebranded title EvilBane: Reboot, with pre-registration beginning March 14, 2016 and offering bonus items to players who signed up ahead of launch. Although the planned date was April 7, 2016, the game appeared on app stores one day earlier on April 6, 2016. Service later ended when the game shut down on April 13, 2018.
