Dreamland Online

Dreamland Online was a free-to-play side-scrolling MMORPG that ran through Facebook and dropped players into a fantasy setting slowly being swallowed by the Evil Fog. You played as a chosen hero empowered by Hero Faith, pushing through quest hubs, instanced fights, and PvP activities while building out a character from one of four starting classes. Over time, those base roles could be promoted into more specialized advanced classes, giving the game one of its more memorable progression hooks.

Dreamland Online Overview

Dreamland Online was a plug-in based MMORPG on Facebook that mixed 3D character models with a side-scrolling, platformer-like presentation. Structurally, it leaned into many staples of anime-influenced online RPGs: questing across zones, gear upgrades, instanced dungeons, pets, mounts, housing, and competitive modes for players who wanted something beyond PvE grinding.

Where it tried to differentiate itself was in progression variety. Rather than stopping at a single archetype choice, the game pushed players toward class advancement, starting with Warrior, Mage, Archer, or Rogue and then branching into more focused roles at the first transfer. That system gave leveling a clear milestone to work toward, and it encouraged experimenting with different playstyles instead of simply chasing bigger numbers.

The pet system also played a central role in day-to-day success. Players could tame creatures from the world and turn them into companions, with pets serving as more than cosmetic collectibles. Between raising, trading, and combining them, pets acted like a parallel progression track that could meaningfully impact combat power. Taken together, these systems made Dreamland Online feel familiar to fans of side-scrolling MMORPGs in the Maple Story mold, even if the moment-to-moment loop stayed largely within genre expectations.

Dreamland Online Key Features:

  • 12 Playable Classes – Begin as one of four core classes (Warrior, Mage, Archer, Rogue), then promote into advanced paths at your first transfer: Knight, Gladiator, Mage, Priest, Hunter, Ranger, Rogue, Bandit, and Assassin.
  • Pet System – A wide range of enemies could be captured and raised as pets, then traded or fused to produce stronger, more unusual companions.
  • Tons of Mounts – Travel in style with mounts that ranged from monsters to skateboards, hoverboards, robots, monkeys, and other novelty rides.
  • Player Housing – Personal housing let you set up a home space for storage and decoration, adding a light social and customization layer.

Development History / Background:

Dreamland Online was both developed and published by IGG, a Chinese company best known for free-to-play titles released across mobile, browser, and traditional client platforms. The studio has historically supported multiple languages and regions, with many projects handled internally rather than outsourced.

The game’s closed beta began on November 21, 2010, followed by an open registration launch on December 13, 2010. For a time it maintained a steady presence on Facebook, receiving updates and drawing in players looking for a lightweight MMO they could jump into from a social platform. In early May 2014, Dreamland Online was discontinued with little advance warning. Considering IGG’s business focus and revenue leaning heavily toward mobile releases, the decision to end support for an older, plug-in dependent online game fit the company’s broader direction at the time.
