Warframe: Tau Takes Players to a New Star System in December

Digital Extremes used its latest Devstream to give players a closer look at Warframe: Tau, the next major update for the long-running free-to-play shooter. It’s due out in December 2026 and will be free on PC, consoles, and mobile.

The big hook is right there in the name: players are finally heading beyond the Origin System and into Tau, a new star system with its own Star Chart, story content, factions, and mission spaces. Digital Extremes says the Origin System isn’t being left behind, but Tau is clearly the focus of this next chapter.

  • Warframe: Tau adds a new single-player cinematic quest set in the Tau system.
  • Perita, a ruined moon, will feature a revamped Survival mission for co-op squads.
  • Fornax, described as a mob-run ring city, includes a new social hub called MANIFOLD 90-BF.
  • A new ally Syndicate, The Cleaving Glaive, will be tied to the Perita wasteland.
  • Brysko, the 67th Warframe, can be earned through gameplay or unlocked through the Warframe Market.

Brysko is also the lead character of Tau’s cinematic quest. The frame leans into detective noir, complete with an inner monologue voiced by Matthew Mercer. His kit includes a Hound companion, Rain & Shine fist weapons, and an Exalted magnum called Corecracker.

The update will also bring new cosmetics, including Koumei’s first Deluxe Skin, Koumei Enshoujo, alongside Warframe: Tau in December. Nezha is getting an Heirloom Skin as well, though that one is currently slated for early 2027.

Digital Extremes is holding back more details for its next Devstream on November 27. For now, the studio has confirmed Tau’s broad December launch window, its new locations, and the headline addition of Brysko as the next playable Warframe.
