U.S. game spending drops 20% in June as UFC 6 tops sales chart
U.S. video game spending fell sharply in June 2026, with projected total sales dropping from $5.7 billion in June 2025 to $4.5 billion this year. That’s a 20% year-over-year decline across hardware, software, and accessories.
According to Circana data, hardware took the biggest hit, falling 62% to $383 million. The comparison is a rough one for Nintendo in particular, since June 2025 included the Switch 2 launch. Nintendo hardware spending was down 79% from that launch month. PlayStation 5 spending fell 19%, while Xbox Series spending more than doubled.
Software was down 12% year over year, while accessories declined 21%. For the year so far, though, the overall picture is much flatter. Total spending across hardware and software is down about 1% compared with the same point last year.
On the games side, EA’s UFC 6 debuted at No. 1 for the June tracking period, which ran from May 31 through July 4. Meccha Chameleon, the co-op game from lemorion_1224, opened in second. 007 First Light slipped from first to third after leading May’s chart, while Star Fox (2026) debuted in fourth.
