Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream topped US game sales in April, Circana says

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was the best-selling game in the US for April, according to Circana’s latest monthly sales report. The game brought in more than $41 million across physical sales and projected digital sales, and helped push spending on new physical software up 44% year-over-year to $96 million.

Overall, US video game spending reached $4.3 billion in April, up 3% from a year earlier. Content spending rose 2% to $3.8 billion, while hardware jumped 34% to $261 million. That hardware bump was largely driven by Nintendo Switch 2, which was the top-selling console in both units and dollars for the month and for the year to date.

Capcom’s Pragmata landed at No. 2 overall. It was April’s top seller on PlayStation platforms, ranked second on PC storefronts, third on Xbox, and still made the top 15 on Nintendo platforms. Crimson Desert followed at No. 3, with MLB: The Show 26 at No. 4.

Circana’s top 10 for the April 5 to May 2 tracking period also included Windrose at No. 5, Pokemon: Pokopia at No. 6, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 at No. 7, Starfield at No. 8, Saros at No. 9, and Mario Kart World at No. 10.

One notable change this month is how Circana is presenting the charts. The firm now publishes a projected top 10 instead of a top 20, using a mix of reported digital sales and projections for publishers that don’t fully share digital data. As Mat Piscatella explained in comments to Kotaku, the updated method is meant to better reflect relative sales performance across the market, especially for publishers like Nintendo that haven’t traditionally provided full digital sales reporting.

On the hardware side, Switch 2’s strong debut more than offset declines for the older Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Circana said Nintendo’s share of hardware spending hit its highest level since July 2025.
