Stars Reach is moving away from fixed planet resets in pre-alpha
Stars Reach is changing how its planets “rotate” during pre-alpha testing. Instead of wiping and refreshing worlds on a fixed schedule, Playable Worlds says it’s dialing back full planet resets so players can actually settle in and build for the long haul.
According to the Discord post, planets had been rotating on a set four-week cycle. That made it easier to clean up worlds and refresh exploration and resources, but the studio says it also made planets feel temporary and undercut the idea of putting down roots.
The new plan is to drop the fixed rotation entirely. Resets will still happen, but they’ll be triggered case-by-case after review, tied to official game updates, and preceded by a heads-up “grace period” so players aren’t blindsided.
Planet rotation matters a lot in Stars Reach because it’s tied into the game’s sandbox setup: resource plundering, landscape reshaping, and persistent structures. The studio’s goal, as described here, is to let players invest in a planet and care about it, while still having a way for used-up or abandoned worlds to fade out and eventually get refreshed.
