Star Wars Galaxies Restoration’s A New Dawn Update Adds DX12 and Repeatable Kashyyyk Runs

Star Wars Galaxies Restoration rolled out its A New Dawn publish on October 24, bringing a long list of changes to the fan-run Star Wars Galaxies server. The biggest additions are repeatable Kashyyyk instances, an experimental DirectX 12 renderer, a new Galactic Trade Network, expanded player cities, mount training, mounted combat, and a new Outdoors Prestige path.

Restoration is free to play, but it’s still an unofficial fan project. It’s not an Electronic Arts or Lucasfilm release.

  • All six Kashyyyk instances now support difficulty modes and repeatable runs, with daily resets.
  • The Bazaar and Player Vendor Sales tabs have been merged into the Galactic Trade Network, which shows bazaar listings and player vendor items in one place.
  • An experimental DirectX 12 renderer is available through the launcher’s Experimental settings. It requires a CPU with AVX2 support.
  • Player cities can now grow to ranks 6, 7, and 8, with city specializations and new buffs for citizens and visitors.
  • Mounts now have trainable stats for run speed, gallop speed, gallop duration, and recovery.
  • Players can use basic melee, ranged, and saber attacks while mounted.
  • Outdoors Prestige adds progression tied to harvesting, camping, fishing, exploration, and creature taming.

The DirectX 12 renderer is still labeled experimental, so players should expect bugs. It adds support for DLSS, FSR, and XeSS upscaling, along with volumetric fog, clouds, atmosphere effects, a new water shader, longer terrain and shadow distances, and optional widescreen field-of-view scaling. The standard 64-bit client also now starts on CPUs without AVX support, as long as players aren’t using the new DX12 renderer.

Kashyyyk gets some of the most substantial gameplay work in this publish. Myyydril Caverns, NK Necrosis, Hracca Glade, Trandoshan Slaver Camp, Avatar Platform, and other Kashyyyk content have been adjusted for repeatable play, with new mechanics or access requirements in several cases. The team says balance changes are likely in the coming weeks.

There are also profession changes for Doctors and Rangers. Doctor buffs now persist through cloning, Medical Center buffs last an extra hour, and Doctors can craft Buff Packs. Rangers get Area Track at Novice Ranger, while crafted camo kits now help with aggressive creature concealment and Advanced Taming.
