Star Citizen Alpha 4.11 Is Now Alpha 5.0, With Nyx I Leading Genesis Tech Rollout

Cloud Imperium Games has renamed Star Citizen Alpha 4.11 to Alpha 5.0, saying the new version number better reflects the amount of tech being bundled into the update. The focus is Genesis, CIG’s ongoing work on building and populating planetary environments, with Nyx I set to be the first planet to use the new systems.

Nyx II and Nyx III are no longer planned for this release. They’ve been moved, tentatively, to Alpha 5.1. CIG has not announced a release date for Alpha 5.0, and there’s no schedule yet for when it might hit the PTU.

The update brings several Genesis-related pieces together, including Starchitect for procedural world construction, Planet Tech V5 for planet generation and rendering, Population Manager for placing inhabitants in environments, Contract Boards for mission access through Guild Halls, and DGS Planet Subdivision, which ties into server meshing by splitting planets and moons into smaller server territories.

There are also a few roadmap status changes. The Lightning Bolt Company “Skarnov” DMR has been moved out of 5.0 and is now planned for an earlier Alpha 4.10.3 release. In Alpha 5.0, Contract Boards, S3 and S10 Bomb Racks, the Kastak Arms “Hellion” pistol, and the Kastak Arms “Verdict” LMG have moved to Committed status.

Two more items, Loot Refresh and Vehicle Combat Balance Pass, have been added as Tentative. The combat balance work is aimed at time-to-kill in space fights, and CIG’s October monthly report said early tools for that rebalancing have already been introduced by the Core Gameplay team.

CIG also cleared up a wipe rumor that started after an unclear community manager reply on Spectrum. No wipe has been confirmed or announced for Alpha 5.0.
