Runeward Online Announced as a Free-to-Play Bullet Hell RPG for PC

FatHatCat has announced Runeward Online, a free-to-play online bullet hell RPG coming to PC. The studio revealed the game on June 2, describing it as a multiplayer dungeon crawler built around dodging heavy enemy fire, chasing loot, and experimenting with runes, weapons, and pets.

The game is now listed on Steam, where players can wishlist Runeward Online. No release date has been announced yet.

Runeward Online casts players as dungeon-diving Runewards exploring a handcrafted pixel art world filled with monsters. Runs use procedurally generated layouts made from handcrafted rooms, with combat focused on fast movement, spellcasting, and bullet hell-style survival.

Build customization looks like the main hook. Runes can change how a character plays, including examples like growing wings to cross pits or reversing knockback so enemies get pulled in instead. Pets also affect combat rather than just following the player around, modifying bullets so they can bounce, duplicate, or track targets.

FatHatCat is also pitching a persistent online structure, with a shared hub where players can chat, party up, trade loot, and enter dungeons together. The Steam page labels the game as an MMO, though the announcement focuses more on co-op dungeon runs and a multiplayer hub than on large-scale MMO systems.

For now, the big confirmed details are simple: it’s free-to-play, it’s planned for PC, and it’s leaning into bullet hell combat with RPG progression and loot-driven co-op.
