Roblox says its new AI-powered “Reality” upscaler could arrive in early form by 2027

Roblox has announced Roblox Reality, a new photorealism upscaling system that layers higher-end visuals on top of the platform’s existing engine. The company says the tech combines Roblox Cloud and the Roblox game engine with AI-driven “Video World Models” to improve things like lighting, textures, and motion.

According to the official post, Roblox expects to release an early version later this year or in early 2027. That timing sounds tentative, and Roblox also said there are still scaling and compute-cost issues to solve before it can support the system more broadly.

The pitch here is pretty straightforward: let creators build games with more realistic visuals without needing the usual time and expense that comes with high-fidelity graphics. Roblox engineering VP Anupam Singh said the goal is to cut down development cost, compute needs, and production time, though the company hasn’t shared what the first version will look like in practice or how widely it’ll be available.

CEO David Baszucki also commented on the technology, describing it as a hybrid setup that mixes the structured logic of Roblox’s existing tools with generative AI systems. That lines up with Roblox’s broader push to add more AI-assisted creation features for developers on the platform.

The announcement lands not long after Roblox reported strong Q1 results, with revenue up 39% year over year to $1.4 billion and bookings up 43% to $1.7 billion. At the same time, the company said recent mandatory age checks and other child safety measures lowered its 2026 growth outlook.
