Pax Dei Details Horse Mounts, Riding Progression, and How Mounts Handle Danger
Pax Dei players got a fresh preview of the sandbox MMO’s upcoming horse system through Mainframe Industries’ Discord, with the studio outlining the first version of mounts and how they’ll work when they eventually arrive.
There’s still no release date for horses, but the preview lays out the basics: three horse types, a dedicated riding skill line, related crafting, and some rules around mount safety. Stables won’t be included in the first rollout.
- Riding horses are meant to be the flexible, general-use option.
- Pack horses will focus on carrying heavier loads.
- Coursers are being positioned as the faster choice.
- Riding will have its own progression path, with unlocks tied to the skill line.
- Horses will have a limited lifetime, but they won’t permanently die or disappear.
- When a horse reaches the end of that lifetime, it reverts to basic stats instead of being lost.
- In dangerous situations, horses build panic and flee rather than getting permanently killed.
That last point should calm some nerves for players worried about losing a mount to one bad fight or a rough trip through the world. Horses can still react to danger, but the system isn’t being framed as full loot for mounts.
Mainframe also said changes tied to Release 48 are coming before horses, though the horse preview itself doesn’t give a firm date for either. For now, the mount system sounds like it’ll launch with the core pieces first, then expand later with features like stables.
