Old School RuneScape update boosts Daeyalt mining and adds farming compost overlay

Old School RuneScape’s September 23 update is live, bringing another batch of Gathering Efficiencies changes. The main gains are for Daeyalt Shards and Essence, with the Celestial Ring and Celestial Signet now applying their Mining enhancer effect to Daeyalt Shards.

That means players have a 1 in 10 chance to receive double Daeyalt Shards on a successful Mining action. Players can also now claim noted Daeyalt Essence when converting shards. The toggle is handled through Noranna Tytanin in the Daeyalt Essence Mine, with options to receive essence in your inventory or send it to the bank. Ultimate Ironmen always receive it in the inventory, but can choose noted or unnoted.

  • Poison Dynamite now costs 1 Nightshade or Cave Nightshade to make, down from 3.
  • Deadfall and Pitfall traps can now use logs stored in the Log Basket. Inventory logs are still used first.
  • The official client, including mobile, now has a farming compost overlay showing whether a patch has compost, supercompost, ultracompost, or none.
  • The compost overlay can be toggled in Settings under the Activities tab, and players can choose the indicator color.
  • Players can now light a fire at the Nex bank area, making it possible to cook food before the fight.

Jagex also confirmed that 12 puppies in the Dog Shelter have received player-given names from giveaways tied to the recent Alveus Sanctuary fundraiser livestream. Cute, and now official.

A few smaller fixes made the patch too. Players can enter the Coral Farm underwater area at The Great Conch without banking most pets, several sea-themed pets now appear while following players underwater, and the Wiki Lookup function should work while the Bank interface is open. On mobile, using Wiki Lookup on Grand Exchange items should no longer freeze the client.

Jagex says more Gathering Efficiencies changes are still on the way, including stackable net traps, though no date was given. RuneFest 2026 is also close, with the OSRS RuneFest Summit roadmap reveal set for October 3 at 13:00 UTC.
