Old School RuneScape Proposes Deep Sea Diving and Burial at Sea Quest
Jagex has outlined a proposed Old School RuneScape expansion built around Deep Sea Diving, a new Sailing-linked activity that would arrive alongside a quest called Burial at Sea. Nothing here is locked in yet. The update is headed to an in-game poll, with voting expected to open soon.
Burial at Sea would be an Experienced-tier quest and the second, final part of the story started in Pandemonium. Players would need 42 Sailing, 38 Smithing, 32 Construction, completion of Pandemonium, and completion of Recipe for Disaster: Freeing Pirate Pete. Rewards would include 3 Quest Points, Sailing and Smithing XP, 10,000 coins, Deep Sea Diving gear, a Diving Bell, and access to the new diving activity.
Deep Sea Diving would let players visit underwater “diving sites” around Gielinor, each with its own Sailing requirement and activity. Jagex says it wants to start with a smaller set of sites first, then expand based on what works.
- Jewellery production sites with silver, gold, gem rocks, and hydrothermal vents that can act as magical furnaces, including an upgrade that banks smelted jewellery.
- An underwater cave farming area with Spirit Tree, Celastrus, Mushroom, and Hardwood Tree patches.
- Low and mid-level Slayer areas with Depth Crawlers, Drowned Mages, and regular Jellies.
- An Abyssal Slayer area with Abyssal Demons, Abyssal Rock Slugs, and a new level 79 Slayer monster called the Abyssal Arbalest.
- Omnivorous Clams, a hybrid Thieving and Magic activity with stackable loot, pearl drops for High Alchemy, and three proposed sail cosmetics.
The Abyssal Arbalest proposal also includes an untradeable Abyssal gland drop. If players bring it to the Dark Mage in the Abyss, it would permanently triple Runecraft pouch durability.
As usual for Old School RuneScape, the big question is whether players want it. The poll will ask separately about the quest, the jewellery and farming sites, both Slayer areas, the Abyssal gland drop, and the clam activity, so parts of the proposal could pass or fail on their own.
