Monsters & Memories Details Beastmaster Rework and Rogue Changes
The Monsters & Memories team has posted new class deep dives for Beastmaster and Rogue, laying out how both are changing during development. Beastmaster is getting the bigger shake-up, moving away from its earlier Shaman-leaning hybrid setup and toward a beast-taming berserker role.
In the Beastmaster deep dive, the team says pets will be split into categories. DPS pets like wolves and wasps hit harder, tank pets like beetles and bears have more armor and health, and balanced pets like spiders and bats sit somewhere in the middle. Each pet also gets a utility ability, such as spiders being able to root enemies with webs.
Pet progression is changing too. The amount of experience needed to level pets is being lowered, which should make it easier to keep more than one companion ready and swap between them. Swarm-style pets are gone, so Beastmasters will now focus on a single companion at a time. The team is still tuning pet damage, survivability, and balance.
Rogue is staying closer to its original direction, but it’s still getting some notable adjustments. According to the Rogue deep dive, poisons are being expanded across more level ranges, with access starting at level 3. There will be three poison types, four tiers for each, and some experimental poisons players will have to find on their own.
Stealth is also being cleaned up. The goal is to reduce the awkwardness of needing to enter stealth mid-fight for certain abilities, while making risk clearer when moving through tougher areas. Yellow-con NPCs won’t see through stealth, and See Invisibility won’t counter stealth for NPCs or players. The team says stealth can still be negated by an Archer ability or by a Beastmaster using a bat.
Some Rogue abilities are being removed or reworked, including Ambush, which the team describes as redundant. In exchange, Rogues should see higher overall damage and smoother progression, with a few ranged options meant to help before players settle into group play.
