Marathon Adds Limited-Time Vault Breaker PvE Mode in Mid-Season 2 Update
Marathon’s Mid-Season 2 Update is live, bringing the game’s first experimental PvE mode with it. Vault Breaker sends Runners into the UESC Marathon’s Cryo Archive for roguelite-style runs, with players pushing through tougher Vaults over multiple attempts while chasing loot and deeper access to the deck.
The mode is available from July 21 through August 4, and it can be played solo, as a duo, or in a trio. Bungie says it’s open regardless of Runner Level, so players don’t need to grind up before jumping in.
- Vault Breaker takes place in the Cryo Archive endgame zone and focuses on repeated PvE runs with escalating difficulty.
- New Codex challenges add cosmetics, including emblems, a profile background, a weapon style, and a weapon charm.
- The WSTR Combat Shotgun has been buffed, while the D54 Battle Pistol and Misriah 2442 shotgun have balance changes.
- A new equipment infil limit is aimed at cutting down on grenade and Bubble Shield spam.
- Implant icons have been updated for clearer readability.
The update also includes progression and economy changes, including Sponsored Kit upgrade paths and Armory offers. Bungie has the fuller breakdown in its Mid-Season 2 Update Preview blog.
Season 2 is still available to all players and includes the Night Marsh zone, the Sentinel Runner shell, new weapons, faster faction progression, a system for customizing Runner shell stats, and quality-of-life changes based on player feedback.
