Hytale modders are already spinning up MMO-style multiplayer servers like Runeteria

Hytale’s mod scene is moving fast. Just weeks after launch, players are already putting together multiplayer servers that look a lot like mini-MMOs, complete with dungeons and bosses.

One of the first big examples is Runeteria, a “Survivor Multiplayer” (SMP) server that went live on January 17. Hypixel’s Simon highlighted it in a post on X. Runeteria doesn’t call itself an MMORPG, but it’s already offering at least one “MMO-style dungeon” and a boss encounter for groups to tackle.

The team behind Runeteria has also published an intro and roadmap, framing the project as an Early Access server. The near-term focus is pretty practical: quality of life, stability, and optimization. Longer term, the plan includes guilds and more of an RPG-style gameplay loop, which is where the MMO comparisons start to make more sense. Minecraft already had several MMO style servers, the most notable being Wynncraft.

If you’re looking for something closer to a single-shard MMO setup rather than a collection of separate private servers, another project called Labyrinth is in the works. It was originally aiming for an early February launch, but that timeline has slipped. The group is still teasing lots of dungeons and monsters, though there’s no updated release date mentioned in the source.

None of this is too surprising given how quickly Hytale’s customization tools are being put to work. With server projects like these already playable (or close), it’s a good sign that the game’s multiplayer modding ecosystem is ramping up in a big way.
