EVE Frontier Cycle 7 Adds Aim Flight and Resets the Universe September 29

EVE Frontier’s next major cycle, Vestiges, launches September 29, and it’s bringing a universe reset with it. Fenris Creations says the reset is needed because several of the update’s changes affect how the game’s universe is generated and discovered.

The headline feature is Aim Flight, a new default control scheme that pushes ship movement closer to manual flight. Players can point their ship with a mouse or gamepad while using the keyboard for acceleration, braking, and other actions. Ships can now strafe, roll, and move outside a fixed flight plane.

  • Aim Flight is the new default, but players can switch back to WASD controls at any time.
  • WASD controls still allow movement and targeting to be separated, so you can fly one way while aiming weapons elsewhere.
  • Ship fittings now affect handling more directly, with thrusters and engines shaping thrust, fuel efficiency, and feel.
  • A new skill system lets both Character and Shell improve through experience earned in the Frontier.
  • Docking now physically attaches ships to ports on objects and infrastructure, with the ship still visible in the world.

Vestiges also changes how threats and exploration work. Feral Drones can scan, travel, mine, salvage, and scavenge on their own, but they won’t have perfect knowledge of nearby space. Instead, they’ll detect signatures, interpret information, and respond based on what they can actually figure out.

Exploration is getting a similar treatment. In-system and inter-system signatures are discovered while traveling rather than being revealed upfront. Players can uncover new points of interest, ancient structures, and more dangerous stellar environments, including multi-star systems with overlapping environmental effects.

Cycle 7: Vestiges arrives September 29. Anyone jumping back in should be ready for a changed flight model, a fresh universe, and a Frontier that asks players to discover more of it by moving through it.
