ETHYRIAL update rebuilds characters, gear, weather, and the world map

ETHYRIAL has rolled out a major update for the indie MMORPG, with the Steam post dated October 31, 2026 and covering development work from April 1 through October 28. It’s a broad visual and quality-of-life pass rather than a single-feature patch, touching character models, armor, weapons, weather, maps, combat feel, and stability.

The most visible change is the character overhaul. Male and female models have been rebuilt, armor has been fitted across both body types, and the character select screen now shows your character on a lit stage wearing their saved equipment. Players can also hide helmets without unequipping them, and the creation screen has more appearance options, including additional skin tones, hair colors, hairstyles, and skirt options.

  • New male and female character models, with updated animations and better armor fitting.
  • Hand-painted armor and weapon art, including refreshed Blood Oath Citadel gear and redesigned older weapons.
  • New water, regional skies, wind-driven rain, ash in volcanic areas, and updated lighting.
  • A redesigned world map that opens faster, shows the full world, and tracks world changes like felled trees.
  • Combat fixes aimed at enemy targeting, blocking, spell casting, threat, and taunts.
  • Hardcore characters, fall damage, and a Biggest Catch fishing leaderboard.
  • Performance and reliability work, including faster loading, smoother travel, fewer crashes, and fixes for lost or duplicated items.

The world itself should look different too. Rivers, lakes, and seas have been reworked, with cleaner shorelines and water that appears on maps. Regions now have their own sky and weather setups, rain reacts to wind and lighting, and snow or rain should stop following players indoors or underground after stairs and teleports.

The map changes sound especially useful for day-to-day play. The new hand-painted world map shows the whole world without fog of war, opens faster, centers on the player, remembers zoom level during a session, and shows coordinates for both the player and cursor position. The minimap also got a painted look with shaded hills and shoreline detail.

There’s a long list of smaller fixes alongside the headline changes, from login and reconnect improvements to corrected NPC appearances, dungeon return points, missing scenery, and stuck spots. In short, ETHYRIAL’s latest patch is mostly about making the game easier to read, smoother to play, and a lot less rough around the edges.
