Bungie will end Destiny 2 Development in 2026, with Monument of Triumph set for June 9
Bungie says Destiny 2’s final live-service content update will arrive on June 9, 2026. After that, active development on the game will wind down, though Bungie says Destiny 2 will remain playable in the same way the original Destiny still is.
That last major update is called Monument of Triumph, and it’s framed as a broad sendoff for the game rather than a typical seasonal drop. According to Bungie’s official post, the update will be free for all players and will add a mix of returning systems, permanent activities, loot refreshes, and a few smaller story beats.
The biggest additions are pretty clear. Pantheon is coming back as a permanent mode with a new boss lineup, rolling out in stages starting June 9. Sparrow Racing League is also returning as a permanent activity, with old tracks, a new track, and its own weapon and armor rewards. Bungie is also restoring the Director as the main activity hub after player complaints about the Portal setup.
A lot of the update is focused on refreshing old gear and smoothing out the game for long-term play. Bungie says raid, dungeon, and destination gear is being updated to modern standards, with new perks, set bonuses, and tier parity. Weekly featured raids and dungeons are returning too.
- Three new Crucible modes are planned, including one playlist mode called Arena
- Gambit is being folded into an Ops category with refreshed rewards and armor
- Seasonal events are being retired, with some event weapons moving to a Monument of Triumph vendor
- Exotic armor transmog is being expanded so non-Exotic ornaments can be shown on Exotic armor in PvE
- A new Destiny 2: The Collection bundle will combine the game’s content packs into one purchase on June 9
Bungie also says individual expansions and content packs will get permanent price cuts in June 2026. More detailed breakdowns are planned in upcoming TWID posts before launch.
While Destiny 2 isn’t dying, the game will no longer see any future updates.
