TDP4: Team Battle
TDP4: Team Battle is a side-scrolling 2D shooter with light MMORPG-style progression, set in a sci-fi conflict between three factions, humans, cyborgs, and mutants. Matches are built around fast, arcade-like gunplay across a range of hand-drawn arenas, with multiple PvP modes and a leveling system that lets you shape your character over time. If you enjoy lobby-based competitive shooters with gear unlocks and stat growth, it is an easy game to jump into, although its late-life economy and balance issues defined a lot of the experience for long-term players.

TDP4: Team Battle Overview
TDP4: Team Battle is a free-to-play 2D shooter MMO with RPG-like character growth, built around lobby-driven PvP matches that could be played in-browser or through a downloadable client. Gameplay is organized into several modes, including staples like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag, along with additional variants that change pacing and win conditions. Matches take place on a broad selection of illustrated maps, where positioning, reaction speed, and knowing sightlines matter as much as raw damage output.
Outside the match, progression functions like a lightweight RPG. As you gain levels, you improve your character through stat allocation and unlock access to additional weapons and upgrades, which encourages experimenting with different loadouts and playstyles. The shop offers an extensive catalog of gear and enhancements available through both standard and premium currency. In practice, that means players willing to invest significant time or money can reach stronger setups sooner than new or purely free players, which affects competitive fairness.
Community features help round out the package, including clans for players who want a regular group, an achievement system tied to your profile, and periodic tournaments that highlight skill and optimized builds.

Development History / Background:
TDP4: Team Battle was created by JAVELIN OÜ, an Estonia-based studio known for both web and game development. Built using Flash (with additional Java work), the game first launched on Kongregate on September 30, 2010, where it maintained a strong presence on the platform for years and became one of the more recognizable competitive browser shooters of its era. A standalone release later arrived on Steam on March 12, 2015, giving players a downloadable option alongside its browser roots. The team later continued the series with a follow-up made in Unity3D, titled TDP5: Arena. By September 01, 2022, TDP4: Team Battle had been removed from both Kongregate and Steam.
