It was at its best in boss encounters where positioning and reaction mattered, since the game encouraged you to watch animations, avoid telegraphed hits, and punish openings with skills. The pace was snappy, and the 2D presentation made fights readable even during flashy special effects, which is not always true for mobile action games.

The character roster was also a major draw, especially for SAO fans. Seeing multiple iterations of popular characters, each with their own artwork and move sets, gave the game a strong collector appeal. Building a team felt like a blend of fandom and optimization, you could chase favorites while still thinking about coverage, damage types, and which kits fit your playstyle.

That said, the design came with trade-offs. Even though you assembled a party, combat typically had you piloting one unit at a time, which could make the “party” aspect feel more like loadout selection than true squad management.
