Realm Royale

Realm Royale takes the battle royale formula and filters it through Hi-Rez’s Paladins-inspired fantasy lens. Up to 100 players drop into a medieval battleground, pick a class-driven playstyle, then scramble for weapons, armor, and abilities while the safe area closes in. The twist is its shard economy, scrap unwanted loot and turn it into crafted, high-rarity gear at forges, which gives each match a clear risk-reward layer beyond pure looting.

Overview

Realm Royale Overview

Realm Royale drops you into a bright, high-fantasy arena where survival depends as much on smart kit choices as it does on aim. You begin by leaping from a transport zeppelin, landing without worrying about fall damage, and immediately hunting for chests that can contain weapons, armor pieces, and class-oriented abilities. Matches can be played solo, in duos, or in squads of four, and the pacing tends to push you into regular skirmishes as the fog steadily squeezes the map.

A major part of the identity here is the class system. Instead of every player pulling from the exact same toolbox, you choose one of five classes, Warrior, Engineer, Assassin, Mage, or Hunter, and lean into its strengths through passives and skill options. That choice shapes how you take fights, whether you want to brawl head-on, control space with utility, or look for quick picks and escapes. You are limited to three skills at once, so loadout decisions matter, and swapping mid-match can be a meaningful tradeoff rather than a free upgrade.

The other defining mechanic is forging. Unwanted items can be scrapped into shards, which are then spent at forges to create stronger, class-specific gear (including Legendary options). This adds a simple but effective strategy layer: do you spend time crafting for a power spike, or stay mobile to avoid getting caught at the anvil. Movement also has its own flavor, since you can summon a mount for fast rotations and quick disengages, a nice fit for a game that wants you to reposition often rather than bunker down.

Realm Royale Key Features:

  • Choose Your Class – pick from five distinct classes, each with its own perks, abilities, and signature Legendary options that encourage different combat approaches.
  • No Gliders – drop straight from the zeppelin and hit the ground running, with no parachutes or glide phase slowing the opening moments.
  • Wield Powerful Skills – chests can contain more than weapons, they also grant class-focused abilities that can swing fights when timed well.
  • Forge Powerful Gear – scrap spare loot into shards, then craft rarer, class-specific items at forges for a more directed progression during a match.
  • Summon A Mount – call your horse to rotate quickly, chase, or escape the tightening fog without needing vehicles.

Development History / Background:

Realm Royale is a 3D fantasy free-to-play battle royale developed and published by Hi-Rez Studios. It traces its roots back to Paladins, where it initially appeared as a battle royale mode called Battlegrounds. After the concept gained traction, Hi-Rez shifted it into a standalone release under the Realm Royale name, keeping the class-forward design and ability-driven combat that set it apart from more traditional, military-styled entries in the genre. The game went through a brief Closed Alpha in April 2018 and later arrived on Steam as an Early Access title in June 2018. It is currently described as being in an Open Alpha phase.
