Exteel
Exteel was a 3D science fiction MMO third person shooter built around fast arena matches and customizable combat mechs. Battles supported up to 16 players at a time, with each pilot tuning their machine through a deep catalog of parts, weapons, and skills that changed both performance and playstyle.

Exteel Overview
Exteel arrived during the earlier wave of free to play PC action titles and stood out by putting mech combat into quick, match-based multiplayer rather than a traditional persistent MMO world. The core loop was straightforward: queue into competitive modes or jump into cooperative missions, earn credits for your performance, then spend those credits on new weapons, modules, and abilities to refine your build.
Progression leaned heavily on shopping and loadout planning. Instead of simply unlocking gear forever, many items were acquired with limits, either for a set duration of time or through a durability system. That structure kept players experimenting with different equipment, but it also meant that “keeping up” could feel like a constant expense, especially when combined with premium options.
Moment to moment, Exteel played like a third person shooter with a heavier emphasis on mobility, target tracking, and build synergy than pure twitch aim. The game’s best moments came from coordinated team fights, smart use of skills, and swapping parts to counter what the other side was running. Players who miss the concept can look toward titles like SD Gundam Capsule Fighter or MechWarrior Online for a modern alternative.
Game Modes – Death Match, Team Death Match, Territory Control, Capture the Flag, Last Stand (Co-Op vs AI)

Development History / Background:
Public confirmation of NCSoft’s plan to shut down Exteel surfaced on December 22, 2009, when the company terminated its license for Exteel SEA. The decision is widely believed to have been driven by weak revenue performance for the game, alongside financial pressure from a separate $28 million USD lawsuit connected to the failed MMORPG Tabula Rasa.
