Enlisted Overview
Enlisted drops players into World War II battles and asks them to think like a small-unit leader, not just a lone soldier. Instead of controlling a single character for the entire match, you command a squad of AI teammates and can swap between them on the fly, which helps keep you in the fight and makes positioning matter. The game frames its content around famous theaters and engagements, including the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of Moscow, with objective-driven maps that emphasize capturing points, pushing fronts, and defending key positions.
Match scale varies depending on the mode, ranging from more compact team sizes up to massive battles that can approach 100 players. You can play in first-person for a traditional shooter feel or switch to third-person perspective depending on preference and situation. Vehicles are a major part of the combined-arms identity, with options such as tanks and planes adding a second layer to map control and counterplay. Outside of matches, Enlisted leans into collection and progression, letting players unlock gear, pursue achievements, and obtain historically themed weapons and soldiers, with trading features also present for certain items and characters.

Enlisted Review
Enlisted aims for the feeling of a living battlefield more than the clean symmetry of an arena shooter. With squads on both sides and constant respawns through squadmates, firefights tend to break out across wide areas, while objectives pull everyone into predictable hot zones. The result is a mix of tense, tactical movement between cover and sudden bursts of chaos when armor or aircraft enter the scene.
Squad control is the game’s signature
What sets Enlisted apart is the moment-to-moment decision making around your AI squad. Positioning matters because your squad can be used as a mobile spawn point, and swapping to a surviving squadmate often keeps a push alive when you would otherwise be sent back to the respawn screen. It also introduces a learning curve; new players need time to understand how to keep squadmates from getting wiped in the open and how to use them to hold angles, defend a point, or cover a retreat.
Gunplay and pacing
Combat is grounded in WWII weaponry, so the experience is generally more deliberate than modern military shooters that rely on high mobility and gadgets. Sightlines, recoil control, and smart use of cover are more important than flashy movement. When it clicks, Enlisted delivers satisfying infantry skirmishes that feel earned, especially in urban streets or tight trenches where positioning and timing decide fights.
Vehicles can swing a match
Tanks and aircraft bring a combined-arms layer that many WWII shooters chase, but few manage at this scale. Vehicles can be thrilling to use and terrifying to face, particularly when a coordinated team supports armor pushes. At the same time, they can frustrate infantry-heavy players when counterplay is not immediately available or when the team lacks coordination. The best matches are the ones where both sides actively respond, using cover, map knowledge, and available tools to contest vehicle dominance.
Progression and long-term motivation
Enlisted’s progression is a major reason to keep playing, but it is also where the free-to-play friction can be felt. Unlocking and upgrading squads, soldiers, and equipment takes time, and the pace can seem slow if you want to experiment with multiple roles quickly. Players who enjoy gradual account growth and collecting loadouts will likely appreciate the structure, while those who want instant access to everything may find it restrictive.
Who it is for
Enlisted is best suited to players who like objective shooters, are comfortable learning systems beyond basic gunplay, and enjoy the idea of leading a small unit within a much larger battle. If you want WWII atmosphere with big team fights and a tactical twist through squad swapping, it offers a distinct take on the genre, even if the grind and complexity can be barriers for some.
