Dragon Project

Dragon Project was a free-to-play mobile action MMORPG that blended party-based progression with boss hunts inspired by the Monster Hunter formula. Players explored the Kingdom of Heiland, accepted quests, and grouped up to take down massive Behemoths for materials used in crafting. With five weapon types to pick from, the game leaned heavily on readable, touch-friendly action combat and cooperative play.

Overview

Dragon Project Overview

Dragon Project was a free-to-play action MMORPG on mobile built around repeatable hunts against giant monsters known as Behemoths. The core loop was straightforward and satisfying: head into the field, learn a boss pattern, break parts, then turn the drops into new weapons and armor. Instead of one seamless open world, the game used a large hub-like structure made up of connected, open zones where you could see other players, pick up quests, and move into instanced fights.

Combat was designed specifically for phones, with simple movement and targeting that still left room for skillful timing. Attacking filled meters that powered Magi abilities, letting you customize your toolkit beyond just your weapon choice. New Magi and Behemoths were also tied to a gacha-style system, but the overall setup was generally approachable for players who did not want to spend, especially since there was no stamina system limiting how long you could play.

Dragon Project Key Features:

  • High-end mobile presentation – story moments are supported by animated scenes, and key characters come with full voice work that helps the world feel more alive.
  • Real-time action battles – tap-and-swipe combat emphasizes positioning, dodging, and deliberate timing, with options like blocking and evasive maneuvers.
  • Four-player cooperative hunts – join up with up to three other players for challenging Behemoth fights that reward teamwork.
  • Zone-based semi-open world – explore a sizable world broken into open maps that support questing and social presence.
  • Gear crafting and progression – materials from bosses feed directly into crafting, encouraging repeated clears and targeted farming.
  • Weapon variety – five distinct styles (sword and shield, great sword, spear, dual blades, bow) support different roles, ranges, and pacing.

Dragon Project Review

Dragon Project aimed to deliver a hunt-focused action RPG experience in a format that made sense for mobile, and at its best it succeeded. Moment-to-moment combat felt crisp for a touchscreen game, with responsive dodges, clear attack tells from Behemoths, and a satisfying sense of impact when you committed to heavier weapon moves. The five-weapon lineup did real work in differentiating play styles, with faster options for players who like constant uptime and heavier kits for those who prefer slower, higher-commitment hits.

The most compelling part of the game was how directly the hunt loop fed into progression. When a Behemoth gave you trouble, the solution was rarely abstract, you could practice the fight, adjust Magi to cover weaknesses, or craft a more suitable set. Because there was no stamina system, it was easy to settle into longer sessions, either solo or in co-op, without the game pushing you to stop.

Co-op was also where Dragon Project tended to shine brightest. Four-player hunts kept fights lively, and the chaos of multiple weapons and Magi effects made even familiar bosses feel more dynamic. That said, the overall quest structure could become repetitive, especially once you had seen the general pattern of “farm materials, craft upgrades, unlock stronger ranks, repeat.” Add in long loading screens and the experience could feel slower between the good parts than it needed to be.

Even with those issues, Dragon Project stood out for production value and combat feel, particularly for players who wanted an accessible monster-hunting style game on a phone. While it is no longer available due to its shutdown, it remains a notable example of how well real-time boss hunting can translate to mobile when controls, readability, and progression are handled thoughtfully.
