Cosmic League

Cosmic League was Cyberstep’s attempt to bring the CosmicBreak formula into a match-based arena shooter built around bright anime styling, customizable characters, and large team battles. Players picked from a small roster of clearly defined combat roles, then fought in leagues that scaled up from beginner-friendly matches to full 10v10 objective play, with progression tied to missions and unlockable gear.

Overview

Cosmic League Overview

Cosmic League is a 10v10, anime-styled arena shooter and the follow-up to CosmicBreak, letting players battle as either humanoid characters or robots. Instead of a freeform loadout system, the game leans on six distinct classes that push you into recognizable jobs on the team. If you want to brawl at point-blank range, Assault is built for mobility and close pressure, while Buster is designed to play further back with heavier ranged firepower. Other roles round out the lineup with support-oriented tools and disruption options, giving matches a more class-driven feel than a pure twitch shooter.

The game’s structure is organized around leagues that act as both matchmaking tiers and learning steps. Rookie League serves as an onboarding space where you can get comfortable with movement, weapon pacing, and objectives. Prime League shifts things into 7v7, a slightly tighter format that emphasizes positioning and role coverage. Master League is where the game fully commits to its larger scale, featuring 10v10 objective-based fights that can turn chaotic quickly when multiple ultimates, mobility skills, and ranged pressure collide.

Progression is tied to completing missions and earning new items, which feed into a customization loop that is as much about style as it is about loadout identity. A paint editor allows you to recolor equipment you own, helping players create a consistent look even as they swap parts, weapons, and cosmetic pieces. Combined with the sci-fi arsenal and shifting battle conditions, Cosmic League aimed to keep matches feeling varied even within a relatively focused set of modes.

Cosmic League Key Features:

  • Anime Aesthetics – a colorful anime-inspired look that contrasts with the game’s aggressive, high-speed firefights.
  • Dynamic Arenas – battlefields can change during a match, nudging teams to adjust routes and tactics as conditions shift.
  • Six Classes – six clear-cut roles support different playstyles, including disruption and support options like Jammer.
  • Various Leagues – multiple leagues provide a ramp from beginner matches into Master League, plus special rules in Event League.

Development History / Background:

Cosmic League was developed by the Japanese studio Cyberstep, and in Japan it was released under the name CosmicBreak 2. The project also had a Kickstarter campaign that went live on February 13, 2015, but it did not reach its goal and ended on March 15, 2015. Cyberstep later opened the official English website on October 28, 2015, then began preregistration on November 12, 2015, which included a bonus robot for players who signed up early. A 3 day Open Beta started on December 07, 2015, leading into the full launch on December 10, 2015. In early Arpil 2017, Cyberstep announced that Cosmic League would shut down on April 12, 2017, and also revealed a mobile RPG titled Cosmicbreak Adventures.
