Fragmented Overview
Fragmented is a survival MMO that takes place in the same setting as the MMORPG The Repopulation. The premise is simple and familiar in the best and worst ways: you begin stranded in a dangerous environment, then work your way up from basic gathering and improvised tools to sturdier defenses, more advanced equipment, and eventually a functional outpost that can withstand both the planet and other players.
Moment to moment play revolves around the core survival loop, collecting materials from the environment (wood, plants, and other resources), crafting what you need, and staying alert when local wildlife decides you look like lunch. Where Fragmented tries to separate itself from the pack is how it treats progression. Instead of limiting advancement to combat or quests, the game hands out experience for a wide range of activities, so building, harvesting, crafting, and exploring all contribute to leveling.
As you gain levels, you invest into eight spheres of knowledge, which act like broad skill categories. Improving these spheres unlocks additional recipes and capabilities, giving crafting and base building a sense of long-term direction rather than feeling like a flat checklist. Over time, construction can move beyond rough wooden structures and into more advanced, tech-leaning facilities that better fit the game’s sci-fi tone.
The multiplayer layer depends heavily on your server choice. PvE-focused rulesets lean into cooperative settlement building and shared progression, while PvP servers introduce the constant tension of defending your supplies and structures from opportunistic raiders. The map is large enough to support roaming and relocation, featuring multiple biomes (including jungles and deserts) across a 6x6km² world, so scouting for specific resources and safer building locations becomes part of the strategy.
Fragmented Key Features:
- RPG Leveling – progress through a system that grants experience for most tasks, then spend levels to open up new skills and survival options.
- Multiple Rulesets –pick the server style that suits you, with PvE and PvP options and variations within each category.
- Extensive Crafting –craft a wide range of survival essentials, including weapons, armor, structures, explosives, and more.
- The Repopulation Universe –shares a universe (and recognizable elements) with The Repopulation, tying it into that broader project.
- Various Biomes –travel through different regions, from thick jungle terrain to deserts and colder zones, across a 6x6km² map.

Release Date: April 26, 2016
Development History / Background:
Fragmented comes from Above and Beyond Technologies, the studio behind The Repopulation. When The Repopulation’s development ran into trouble due to HeroEngine’s financial issues, the team made the decision to move their work over to Unreal Engine 4. Rather than leave players with nothing while that transition happened, the developers chose to build a separate game that could ship sooner and still make use of the same universe and many related assets.
That project became Fragmented, effectively functioning as a spin-off tied to The Repopulation’s larger ambitions. Owners of The Repopulation were granted access to Fragmented at no extra cost, and the game launched in Early Access on April 26, 2016.
