Weekly Recap #494 May 5th – POE Sentinel, Destiny’s Guardian Games Return & More!

JamesBl0nde recaps the MMO gaming news for the week of May 5, 2022! Transcript follows.

Path of Exile prepares the reveal of its next expansion, The Guardian Games have returned to Destiny 2, Elsword celebrates 11 years strong, and its time to say good by to another great free to play MMO.

What’s good everyone, JamesBl0nde here with the weekly recap for gaming news and announcements for the week of May 5th, 2022 and this is going to be a mini-recap this week as I had to get an earlier start than normal since I’m heading out on a much needed vacation with the family and
One thing I don’t want you to miss while I’m gone is the next major reveal for Path of Exile! On May 5th Grinding Gear Games will be revealing the details behind its next expansion and league, titled Sentinel. Unfortunately I won’t be here for the reveal so make sure to check out their Twitch streams and channel to find out what’s new. All we’ve been told so far is to expect a new challenge league, more endgame improvements, and additional new content. Sentinel is set to drop on May 13th for PC and May 18th for PlayStation and Xbox!

Also happening while I’m out is the start of Apex Legend’s newest season, called Saviors! This update will feature the new support Legend, Newcastle, and the introduction of the Monstrous changes to the Storm Point map, along with updates to the ranked system and more. This week EA revealed more of the Storm Point map changes, which includes a new point of interest featuring a washed up sea creature and four new PvE structures, the IMC Armories, to add new strategy to the map. This update launches May 10th so get your loadouts ready.

The Guardian Games have returned to Destiny 2! This free event has players competing to become one of the best of their chosen class over a variety of events in several categories. From special playlists to collecting Laurels by completing PvE events, players can unlock special rewards including the Guardian Games Tankard and Medal, Heir Apparent Exotic Machine Gun, Legendary SMG, Exotic Ship, and more. The winning class gets recognized at the closing ceremonies on May 24th, with a trophy displayed at the Tower for a full year! Additionally this year Bungie is running the Guardian Games Cup alongside a Direct Relief Charity fundraiser.

Meanwhile, Elsword is currently celebrating its 11th anniversary with a host of in-game events, exclusive cosmetics, and more. The festivities started on May 4th and include limited time log in rewards, the new Ice Burner set, and the 11th Anniversary tournament. A new update also introduces the Elrios Pass, a battle pass system for players to earn extra rewards, and the 4th path unlock for Ara, who learns to control her holy power in new ways.

So I haven’t mentioned it yet, but the long running MMORPG TERA – the one that’s well known for some of its wild trailers we’ve shown over the years- is shutting down at the end of June. The developer, Bluehole, decided to completely end development for the game and there’s not much else its publisher, Gameforge, can do. As a farewell, Gameforge is turning on a bunch of permanent boosts and events on the game until it shuts down to help players enjoy all the content the game has to offer. Honestly might even be worth it if you’ve never played TERA to just go create a character and experience the game before it’s gone for good. Super sad day learning about this, as Tera was my personal all time favorite free to play MMORPGs, I’m sad to see it go.

And finally make sure to check out the Epic Games Store for the free game of the week – Terraforming Mars. This is a strategy game where you manage changing and colonizing the red planet through terraforming, building cities, and more. Unlike a lot of strategy games though, this is the adaptation of a board game that utilizes cards and multiplayer strategy to determine which corporation reigns supreme.

and with that said, that’s about it for all the major news and announcements for this week. I’ll still be on vacation for next week’s recap so meet back here the week after for more news and in the meantime Be sure to stay safe, and keep your families healthy!
