Last week, I had the chance to dive back into a game with a concept that I genuinely enjoy: Project Genesis. Project Genesis is a game that is presently in development (pre-alpha), that puts a fun spin on the First/Third Person Shooter genre. I would just post the video on our Youtube channel normally, but I spent far too much time with control issues, so I don’t feel like the gameplay would put the game in a fair light. The last time I played with the Project Genesis team, this was not an issue. These things happen in development. The next question I was given was “Why not just use keyboard and mouse?” and the answer is that the motion is so quick that it was making me nauseous. I’m not taking Dramamine just to play a video game.

The premise of the game is a fun one though. You pick from a variety of spaceships, each with their own weight class and design. You can customize the weapons on them, so you can use any guns on any ship. The goal is to ultimately break into and detonate the enemy team’s capital starship. You blow up their shields and use a pod to breach into the side of the ship. Then the game is in first-person shooter view and will go through a few sabotage missions. The other team can return to their ship and try to stop you, but as of right now, there’s no mini-map for either type of map. I hope this is added in the future because while I can see where things are, I have no idea what floor they’re on, et cetera. It can be very stressful to defend your own starship. This is a cool concept, and both the starships and the backdrops are gorgeous. I’ll say that the Project Genesis team has nailed the aesthetic so far. Each ship looks fantastic, and the worlds we do battle on are stellar.

I suppose the one thing that I really wonder and worry about, is “How will the game be monetized?” because I love the game and game concept, and I’d hate to see it disappear into the void. This is something I have not brought up yet with them because it’s still very early in the game’s development cycle. It offers something that other flight/combat games does not offer, with the idea of breaching ships and shifting perspectives. I’m hoping to see some kind of lore in this universe too, be it in the form of cutscenes, or a single-player/multi-player story. This would be a fun one to offer a co-op story. It’s a beautiful and intriguing game/game concept, and I definitely think more people need to be aware of it. It can be wishlisted on Steam, and keep an eye on our website, we’ll be keeping you up to date on everything related to Project Genesis.
