What’s good everyone, JamesBl0nde here with the weekly recap for gaming news and announcements for the week of July 9th 2021 and the short week this past week makes for a short and sweet recap of news but starting out…
Neverwinter players on console, your wait is over! The final act of Sharandar, The Odious Court, is out now on XBox One and Playstation 4. Travel to the Dark Fey Mire to investigate the machinations of the wicked green hag Velma the Bonegrinder and her sisters. You’ll need to restore order to the area, which won’t be easy given the aggressive Dryads and frog-like Grungs that claim the land as their own! Enjoy all new challenges in this update, including a challenge against all three hags at once!
Speaking of new, a new rogue has joined the party in Rogue Company: Switchblade! Armed with her unique Chaos Launcher, she’ll rain destruction down upon her foes. Pair that with her Fight and Flight passive which gives increased movement speed every time Switchblade uses abilities and gadgets like grenades and flashbangs, and you’ll be performing strafing runs against the enemies across the map. There’s a certain League of Legends character she… kinda reminds me of. In addition to Switchblade, Rogue Company has also implemented 6v6 modes in the form of King of the Hill and Team Deathmatch!
And speaking of… join in the Season of Sentinels in League of Legends. The Sentinels of Light are hitting the scene, and with them comes an all new narrative across the game. Join the Sentinels of Light in a story-driven narrative that lets you choose your path as new events unfold every week. In addition, try out a new game mode: Ultimate Spellbook. This wild ride lets you choose one of three random character ultimates in place of one summoner spell, offering players a unique, chaotic, and fast-paced match every time. Finally, say hello to the newest champion — Akshan! This roguish character is as dangerous as he is charming, and fulfills the roles of both an assassin and a marksman. Designed for quick strikes against softer enemy champions, he’ll swing into and away from battle with his grappling hook and use his powerful abilities to get the kill and move on. Season of Sentinels is live now and will run until August 10.
In other news, Crowfall has officially launched. This competitive PvP MMORPG promises to let players determine the course of the story. Engage yourself in epic sieges to claim land, build your own massive fortifications, and defend it against would-be invaders seeking to loot and plunder. Along the way, you’ll form alliances with others, create and destroy empires, and write history of course. Progression promises to be swift, allowing players to quickly enter the endgame without the lengthy grind most MMORPGs offer, and instead offers a huge variety of advancement with countless combinations of race, class, subclass, and promotions available. As the developers say, in Crowfall, the endgame IS the game.
Also launching today in fact, is version 1.7.0 of Dauntless, titled Heroes of Ostia. This update launches a new feature: omnicells — new craftable gear that lets you develop around your preferred playstyle as well as prepare for individual boss encounters in the wilds. You can also look forward to a new quest as you help Dr. Priyani uncover the mysteries of an old threat resurfacing. With all new gear, a brand new hunt pass, numerous balance changes and bug fixes, become a hero of Ostia today!
Riders of Icarus is celebrating five years since its launch with several new events and items to celebrate. Meet the NPC six and join them in the hunt for anniversary cakes to claim a huge number of prizes, including new items and familiars. Six will send you off on various quests, letting you revisit memories from the past such as your first dungeon, first mount, etc. Each day the event is active, you’ll also receive rewards just for logging in! Expect daily sales in the shop, too. This celebration is active now, and will run until the end of the month, so claim your rewards today.
Summer being a little bit boring for you? Apex Legends thinks they have the cure with their upcoming Thrillseekers update! Challenge a brand new arena map: Overflow! Featuring more of a lane style than traditional Apex Legends arenas, here the floor is quite literally lava! New weekly tracks have been added for the event, offering a bunch of new unlockables every week, including weapon charms and skins, character skins, and boosts galore. Accompanying the event will be the Summer Splash Sale, offering tons of unique customizables at discounted rates. The Thrillseekers update will launch on July 13 and will run until August 3, with the Summer Splash Sale ending on the 27th of July.
What do Bridge Simulator and The Walking Dead have in common? If you said the most ambitious crossover ever, you’d be right! Get the classic physics puzzle game combined with the zombie apocalypse hit TV show this week free on the Epic game store! But that’s not all! Ironcast is also free this week, mashing up Victorian fashion, giant steam mecha, and gem match-3 style gameplay. Yup those games are like two peas in a pod… both free until next week at least.
But with that said, that’s about it for all the major news and announcements for this week. Be sure to stay safe, and keep your families healthy!
