Warhammer: Odyssey Interview

Warhammer Odyssey Interview

I recently had a chance to sit down with the developers of the upcoming Warhammer mobile MMO, Warhammer: Odyssey. So I hope you guys enjoy it and come away with a little knowledge of what you can expect when the game goes live.

Ragachak: When someone mentions “Warhammer MMO” we ultimately always come back to “Age of Reckoning”. What selling points does Odyssey have to bring those players back around?

Warhammer: I don’t think comparisons would be helpful, we’re very much our own game. For example one of the core pillars of AoR was PvP whereas we’re much more on the RPG side of the MMORPG spectrum and PVP will be something that evolves over time. Our goal is to do justice to the scale and lore of the Warhammer world.

Ragachak: Where in particular does Warhammer: Odyssey fall in the lore of Warhammer?

Warhammer: We’re based in 8th Edition Warhammer Fantasy, for us, it’s a very complete reference of the setting which offers great scope for adventures.

Ragachak: Are there any particular major NPCs/lore characters that you are excited to bring to life?

Warhammer: Let’s just say we’re big fans of Gotrek & Felix…but we like their nemesis even more. That said there’s a fantastic range of characters available in this setting each with their own stories to tell, don’t be surprised to see familiar faces as the game grows.

Ragachak: When you look back at previous Warhammer titles, what are some of the biggest takeaways you tried to keep in mind for Odyssey?

Warhammer: As fans of Warhammer, in general, the key thing for us is to remain true to the IP even if this means having to make a few compromises along the way.

Ragachak: Will character classes have varied ways to build or stand out from their peers? If so, how?

Warhammer: Players will be able to differentiate themselves both visually and in the skills and abilities they choose to focus on.

Ragachak: While all Warhammer fans love the classic Chaos vs. Order story, are there other themes you want to use without offering too much in the way of spoilers?

Warhammer: We want to delve more into the day to day of life in the Empire and beyond, it’s not always Beastman herds at the doors! Political intrigue, corrupt officials or just straight-up thieves…and the influences behind those can be just as much of a threat.

Ragachak: One of the most important questions in any mobile MMO has to be monetization. What is the planned monetization method?

Warhammer: There will be in-game purchases with a focus on cosmetics and quality of life options, we’re also exploring a range of subscription options for those that wish to use it. However, the game will be fully playable for free.
