SMITE – The Battleground of the Gods just got bigger!

Today, November 2, 2012, the latest patch for the AAA Free-to-Play MOBA SMITE revealed a new game mode, known as Arena. This team deathmatch style game mode also features a new map that resembles a Colosseum setting. Arena is played 5 versus 5 with minions and side-objectives including buff camps and Gryphon Guardians. Your team earns points for killing enemy players and minions, and the first team to deduct 500 points from their opponents wins.

Hi-Rez Studios Chief Operating Officer Todd Harris said:

SMITE is all about action combat. So we wanted an additional game type that allows players to get into the action even faster. One of our level designers took the initiative to put together this more open Colosseum map concept on his own time. We’ve enjoyed playing it so much that the team has worked overtime to get the new mode quickly into the hands of our Beta community and we look forward to their feedback.

In addition to the new game mode Hi-Rez Studios released the latest God, Loki to the mix. Loki, the Trickster God, is a physical melee fighter and from the looks of this SMITE God Reveal he can be pretty sneaky.

Here is a break down of Loki’s abilities:

Passive: Behind You! – Loki deals 20% more damage with his basic attacks when hitting enemies from behind.

Vanish
Loki disappears in a puff of smoke for 3 seconds. While invisible, Loki is immune to slows and moves 50% faster. His next basic attack from this ability applies a bleed to the target, and removes the invisibility.

Decoy
Loki spawns a decoy version of himself that taunts nearby minions. After 3 seconds, the decoy explodes and deals damage to all enemies within radius of the decoy.

Aimed Strike
Loki’s next basic attack does additional damage and slows the enemy.

Ultimate: Assassinate
Loki teleports to his ground target location. If an enemy god is within the targeted location, Loki will deal damage, and apply a stun.
