Need for Speed World, EA’s racing MMO based on the Need for Speed franchise, will be launching on July 20th.

The game will offer a free client download that will allow players limited access to the game, as a sort of permanent free trial/preview. Free players can access all content up to level 10.

Players who want to access to the rest of the game will have to purchase the Starter Pack, which will give them access to content up to level 50, bonuses and perks, and $20 of SpeedBoost. The starter pack will cost a one-time fee of $20.

This means that the racing MMO will be a subscription-free, but not free-to-play, model, unlike EA’s other free online titles such as BattleForge and Lord of Ultima. Although many good comments have come out about the game so far, there’s no doubt the F2P player market is a little disappointed at this decision.
