League of Legends Prepares to Launch Season Two

Riot Games has announced that season two for League of Legends will begin in the very near future.  The season will feature a five million dollar prize pool, which is the largest ever offered in eSports history.  The game’s population has grown by nearly 300% since July, with 11.5 million active players per month.

In addition, a $2 million tournament to crown the world’s best League of Legends team will culminate the season, featuring comprehensive coverage, spectator mode, and a tournament structure to encourage people to join up.

League of Legends is Riot Games’ debut title, with over 30 million people having downloaded and played the game since release.

Over Four Million People Play League of Legends Every Day with Over 30 Million Registered Players

LOS ANGELES – 18th November, 2011 – Riot Games today announced that over four million people play League of Legends every day – an increase of 280% since Riot last announced the size of its community in July 2011. With 11.5 million monthly active players, peak concurrency reaching 1.3 million, and a registered player base of over 30 million worldwide, League of Legends is about to enter its second competitive season as one of the top five PC games in North America and Europe.

Set to begin in the very near future, League of Legends: Season Two will feature a five million dollar prize pool – the largest in eSports history – culminating in a global $2 million tournament where Riot will crown the best League of Legends team in the world. Players can look forward to comprehensive coverage of the eSports scene, game features like spectator mode and ranked teams, and a competitive structure that encourages talented players to team up and compete.

Since its launch, over 30 million players have downloaded the game to engage in session-based, multiplayer battles against rival teams, with more than four million players enjoying League of Legends every day.
