Founded in 1982, Electronic Arts was an early pioneer of the video game industry. Best known for releasing retail PC and console titles, EA is now expanding into the free to play space. Their purchase of Phenomic Studios in 2006 and the release of Battlefield Heroes by their DICE studio were the most visible moves in the f2p direction. Electronic Arts currently as a free online version of their Need for Speed franchise under development.
