MapleStory: Rise of the Resistance launched

The second part of MapleStory’s Big Bang update, called Rise of the Resistance, is now live.

The update adds the new mining village of Edelstein. There, players can choose to become a new class – a Wild Hunter, which rides a jaguar mount, or a Battle Mage, which offers AoE attacks and high hitpoints. The update also adds HappyVille and the annual Maple Christmas Tree event to the game for a limited time. Double experience will be granted from 2 to 4 p.m. PST on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

MapleStory is published by Nexon, which also publishes Vindictus, Mabinogi, and Combat Arms.

MapleStory releases two new classes: Wild Hunter & Battle Mage, and a new town, Edelstein

Nexon America has announced that the second installment of MapleStory’s Big Bang update has gone live. Rise of the Resistance introduces the Wild Hunter and Battle Mage classes and the new town, Edelstein.

The introduction of Edelstein allows players to explore the quiet mining village where the people have a knack for technology. Players are invited to join the Resistance and battle as one of the new classes – the Wild Hunter or Battle Mage. The Resistance Class is a new collection of heroes that have banded together to thwart the dark deeds of the Black Wings, a secret cult dedicated to the resurrection of the vile Black Mage.

The Wild Hunter roams the Maple World on a jaguar mount, inflicting powerful ranged attacks to ill-willed enemies. As another ranged character, the Battle Mage powerfully attacks multiple enemies at once and is the perfect party member thanks to his high HP.

To promote the Rise of the Resistance update, Nexon America has released two new videos portraying the audition process for the two classes, which also feature gameplay footage of the Battle Mage and Wild Hunter.

In addition to the new changes to MapleStory, players looking for some holiday cheer are now able to visit Happyville and participate in the annual Maple Christmas Tree Event. As an added bonus, on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. PST, a double experience and enemy item drop event will take place.

Lastly, the second Hot Time event will be taking place on Wed., Dec. 22, from 2:00 – 2:01 p.m. PST. Players logged in at this time will receive an SP Reset Scroll, a box from Cassandra with a random item, and a chance to win one of several prizes valued at 5,000 and 10,000 NX. Players are encouraged to log in early and participate in the 2X EXP and drop from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. PST to ensure Hot Time participation.
