Excalibur Online launches open beta

Since its announcement, Excalibur Online news has been rather quiet, but today, the game announced it was launching into open beta.

A browser-based strategy game looking similar to games like Evony and Lords Online, Excalibur Online offers players the chance to build kingdoms in the mythological-historical era of King Arthur’s time. Over 100 legendary heroes, 19 unit types, and dozens of structures are available for players to build and experiment with.

Excalibur Online Starts Worldwide Open Beta

Excalibur Online, the browser based strategy game from Omniverse Games and Radiance Digital Entertainment, will begin Open Beta testing on August 12, 2010. Players from around the world will finally have the chance to prove themselves worthy of Excalibur as they attempt to unify Britain under their own banner in this classic game of strategy and conquest.

Portsmouth, NH, August 12, 2010 – Set in the days just before Camelot and the rise of King Arthur, Excalibur Online is a free to play browser based strategy game that offers players the chance to unify medieval Britain. Players must collect resources and quickly develop new technology in order to build up their cities, maintain powerful armies, defend against invaders, and develop strategies to conquer the entire map. Thousands of players from around the world have the same goal, so it’s a never ending battle for resources and development.

In Excalibur Online, players can enter into alliances with other players, get help from legendary heroes, and use magical special items to help achieve their objectives. The game features over 100 historical and legendary heroes from the period that can be recruited to lead player armies. There are 19 types of military units including magic users and siege weapons. Players can build a wide variety of structures to develop resources, research new technologies, recruit and train armies, and maximize defense. Players can also communicate with each other using a sophisticated chat system and in-game emails.

Fans of games in this genre will immediately feel at home in Excalibur Online. For those new to the genre, a system of in-game “quests” function as tutorials that quickly bring new players up to speed.
