MMOHut Legendary Champions Interview
A Few weeks ago AeriaGames asked me to do an interview for their upcoming game Legendary Champions. Since there wasn’t too much info available out there about the game, I figured doing an interview would be an awesome way for me to learn more about the game and to share that info with MMOHut readers. Anyway, on with the interview!
Omer Altay (OA): Hi, This is Omer From MMOHut.com – can you please introduce yourself and tell us your position over at Aeria Games / Legendary Champions?
Aeria Games (AG): Hi Omer, I’m Dennis and I’m a game master for Legendary Champions.
OA: Alright Dennis, Let’s get started! Who actually developed Legendary Champions? Is the game available outside of North America? If so, has the game been successful there?
AG: UserJoy is the developer for Legendary Champions. The game is currently released in Taiwan and is doing quite well.
OA: Interesting. UserJoy is the same company who developed Kingdom Heroes. Can you tell me a little about Legendary Champions? What’s the game all about and how is it different from the 100+ other free to play MMORPGs out there?
AG: Legendary Champions takes place in an alternate earth setting during the Three Kingdoms period of China. In a bid for power, the leader of the Wei faction, Cao Cao, has his court sorcerers invoke powerful magic that breaks the fabric of reality and brings heroes and creatures of legend into this world. Your character takes a central role in the battles to come as someone who can harness the powers that were unleashed and turn into these Legendary Champions.
OA: Wow. The Three Kingdoms setting is extremely popular amongst Chinese MMORPGs. What kind of crafting system (if any) can we expect from Legendary Champions?
AG: Crafting is currently done through the Guild System in Legendary Champions. Using prestige earned in both PvE and PvP, you will be able to craft consumables, weapons, mounts and more.
OA: Good to see the game does have a crafting system. How will progression work in Legendary Champions? Do players get stat points every level? Skill Points? How many skill / talent trees will each class have? Will there be job advancements?
AG: Progression is through character leveling, which gives you stat points and access to new skills; champion leveling, which increases the powers of your champions, unlocks new champions and gives you bonus stat points; and guild leveling, which gives you access to more and more powerful guild crafting recipes and guild skills.
OA: Sounds pretty standard – which isn’t a bad thing! Tell me a bit about the PvP in Legendary Champions. Also explain the game’s DotA inspired battlefields a bit more, as I personally love games like DotA and League of Legends. Will this be a separate game within Legendary Champions, or something else? Will PvP be a big part of Legendary Champions?
AG: There are two main forms of PvP. In the open world aspects, people will be engaging in PvP while trying to accomplish various quests in Open PvP zones, some of these quests being PvP based. The other type of PvP is instance based, which is where the DotA style map comes in. At the start of a Mount Dingjun (the DotA style map) battle, players will pick a Champion form that they retain for the entire battle. There will be several lanes for them to fight down with minions, towers, and enemy players in the way as they attempt to kill the opposing faction’s general.
OA: The DotA style PvP sounds awesome. What about PvE? What kind of end game content can we expect to see in Legendary Champions? Raiding? How many players can be in a raid at once?
AG: From level 5 onwards, there are PvE based instances that players can work through and gain access to equipment, skills, and levels all the way to end game raiding. Four mighty beasts wait at the end game, each needing 20+ well organized and well equipped players to even have a chance of taking down!
OA: 20+ person raids sounds pretty interesting. Very few games have major raids like this nowadays. I know that closed beta for Legendary Champions will begin towards the end of August, but when can we expect open beta? I know you haven’t announced this yet, Can you provide us a ball park estimate?
AG: Shortly after Closed Beta ends, so look forward to it around the middle of September.
OA: There you have it guys! Legendary Champions should begin its Open Beta around the middle of September! Thank you for your time! I look forward to trying Legendary Champions myself during the open beta!

Well, Kitczat, if you even read part of it… some of the features look a bit different from “nothing special”. But yes, the three kindoms idea is a bit over-used.

Yeah i guess its over used , but cmon would you prefer that it just being set in plain China and nothing else The Three Kingdoms is a very famous period of time so I’m okay with the games based on that

Look like an interesting game. Even tho the three kingdoms theme is seriously overused in mmos these days(I mean really, like ever 5th mmo is using that theme x:), the aspects of the game sound awesome. Especially the raids. In most of the mmos you can solo a boss quite easily if you’ve played long enough, and i find that sad. I’d rather have to kill a really hard boss with alot of others and get the rewards for that, then just go on and spam some pots till i whack some some huge shark with a odd hat with coconut shells (Dragonica). The classes are niceish, but I wish someone thot up of some new classes. Now most games just name them differently and that’s it. But the whole champion thing seems to be very interesting. Especially the fact that you can turn into the champion. I love how you learn skills. You have to buy skill-books. In other mmos it’s usually you just randomly learn the skill from air, or go to some random dude who tells you how to do the skill. I also like how they made their boss monsters big. 2 awesome dragons to try and kill. Not a overgrown flower or turtle (Luna). Also like that pvp has no penalties. And the Battlefield battles sound really nice. You actually need good teamwork to win, not overpowered real money items. As long as the grind isn’t long or boring, can’t wait for the open beta xD.

It’s odd that there are so many Three Kingdoms MMOs yet (as far as I know) no MMOs set in feudal Japan. Samurai, ninja, early riflemen and plenty of interesting scenarios to glean from its history would together make for a great game!

@BeamSplashX:
You’re right man. I would definitely play a MMORPG with a Feudal Japan theme, specially that I’m a fan of katana’s and stuff..

You’re so right BeamSplashX, well anyway, even thou I don’t expect too much of it but lots of repeating and so on, I’ll give it a try when it enters OB.

@ BeamSplash yeah they should recreate the Sengoku period in Japan but I read it and its almost the same as the three warring states in its reasoning.
In Japan several warlords want control of the land but then oda nobunaga changes the ones who possess power by successfully destroying older more prominent warlords then he got betrayed my mitsuhide then he got killed by hideyoshi toyamtomi then he died and leysu got control of the land. on the otherhand the three warring kingdoms are started when warlords got too much power from the failing han dynasty then the warlords fight for the land having their own personal desires and cao cao came on top. then cao cao’s family got betrayed by his tactician sima yi then his family created the jing dynasty wow so similar no?
just change some names and places but both stories are just an example of when too many warlord has too much power and creates anarchy and one lucky warlord comes on top and then they get betrayed and replaced.
