Top 5 Best Anime MMORPGs

There are a LOT of free MMORPGs on the market and in this ‘Top best’ MMORPG list, we’ll be looking at the top 5 best anime MMORPGs. It seems like a good 95% of free MMORPGs are based off of anime art styles, but in this list we’re only going to focus on the game’s that are truly anime inspired rather than those that just have somewhat anime graphics. Odds are most free MMORPGs have anime art styles because they originate in the East, mostly in Korea and Japan.  The top 5 Best Anime Style MMORPG Games  list below was compiled using review data from across the internet and from our own reviews here on MMOHut. If you’re looking for the best Anime  MMORPG to play, you’re at the right place.

Top 5 Best Anime MMORPGs / MMOs

#1 MapleStory

4443 350x263 maplestory heneysis

Maple Story is a 2D Side Scrolling MMORPG published by the Korean MMO company Nexon. The game has cute anime styled graphics. The game is enormously popular all around with world and its success led to the development of a fully fledged anime television series based on the game’s cartoony characters and graphics.

#2 Grand Fantasia

19945 350x263 grand fantasia awesome enemy

Grand Fantasia is a top notch anime MMORPG published by Aeria Games. It has really sleek cel-shaded graphics, a whole bunch of playable classes and a neat in game pet system. There are plenty of quests in Grand Fantasia too, so you never need to outright grind!

#3 Fly For Fun (Flyff)

4114 350x263 flyff city

Fly for Fun, usually shortened as Flyff, is a 3D anime styled MMORPG published by Gpotato. The game is enormously popular worldwide and was even hailed as the best online game by Korea’s Ministry of Culture in 2004. Fly For Fun was actually one of the first free MMORPGs to offer flying mounts for players.

#4 Mabinogi

1916 350x263 mabinogi fence

Mabinogi: Fantasy Life, or just Mabinogi for Short, is a more traditional anime styled MMORPG by Nexon. The game actually has a unique artstyle that I haven’t seen in any other game, as the game features hand-painted textures and unique artsy graphics.

#5 Cloud Nine

19603 350x263 cloud nine 30 dps

Cloud Nine is a 3D anime inspired fantasy MMORPG published by Netgame. It’s actually a vastly upgraded version of Holic Online, The music, graphics, and gameplay are all extremely well done. The graphics are bright and a bit cute. It’s well worth checking out.

Bad outdated list is bad and outdated.

Trickster should be at last, mabinogi possibly should be in first, DOMO should be below it, FlyFF should be below DOMO, and maple story shouldn’t even be up there anymore, because it’s repetitive, grindy and revolves around a cash shop.

Domo got boring really fast for me. Couldn’t stand FlyFF or Mabinogi. I’m pretty sure I’ve played Trickster a while back… but I cant remember what it was like. I didn’t play it for very long so I don’t think I enjoyed it for long. Maplestory. I spent hundreds of dollars on that game, mostly on outfits. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID!!!! It used to be fun, and its good for new players up until level 20, but then it gets boring, and “grindy” as previously noted by glazed. I’ve recently been playing Lost Saga and the only real problem I have with it is the fact that you can’t customize anything for free, you have to pay real money just to be a girl! That made me a bit angry because as a girl, I’d like to portray my own gender. I think I’ll still play it for a while longer though. Maybe. However, I have to say the most fun I’ve had out of these 5 is Lost Saga but the game I think looked the best graphics-wise was Maplestory. This is mostly because for one, I love 2D games. But then again… Nexon never seems to get any of their games right. There’s always something missing, or at least thats what people say. For anyone out there reading this, hoping to get an Idea for the next game to play: Try all of them. They’re all mostly free I think anyways, and besides, my opinion is not the same as yours most likely, so any personal recommendation is probably useless. I’m somewhat happy with EVE online (Free 14 trial for now) but it’s not Anime so don’t get your hopes up, as well as it’s a monthly Pay to Play game. I don’t know why you would want to, but if you do need to get in touch with me, heres me E-Mail (I don’t know if it says it or not…)

I tried all these except Cloud Nine, which I shall try now x3
All exceptional games, but I think I’ll have a different order and not have MapleStory
    1) Mabinogi – Unique game with a lot to do as it said
    2) Flyff – Although it’s grinding based, the flying on it is very good.
    3) Soul Master – Although it’s a new game and therefore I haven’t got much of a chance to play on it yet, it does look very good and I think it’s a game I’ll be continuing for a long while
    4) Grand Fantasia – I love the Sprites, all very cute and everything :)
    5) Iris Online – Yet to be released in English, and despite I don’t understand the Japanese version, I found it very cute. It graphics similar to Luna [Which would've been my 6th choice] but much more to it with stuff such as Morphs and Mounts and wide selection of classes, and you don’t even have to pay extra to get them ;) For those wondering, gPotato will be releasing this in English late 2010.

Other games to consider: Luna Online as I said before, Florendia with the sail system and I quite like the look of Legend of Edda, but I haven’t tried that out yet as it’ll be released on Fall 2010. ^^

But, this is just my opinion ;)

Maple Story = Hate the 2d.
Grand Fantasia = Played and is a waste of money, and time, LOTS of spammers and bots. Players in game are Rude, and Greedy – No help at all
Flyff = Bad interface – Just Sucks.
Maginobi = Has no appealing looks.
Cloud Nine = Played, has bad English translations, Slow Exp rate, Waste of time and money, And the players in the game are no help at all – Rude and greedy.

Soul master – Limited character customization, few classes, you have to repeat stages – and its a real time strategy game -Didn’t like it.

—-These are MY OPINIONS , I have played almost every single game, and one has yet to amaze me. ———–

Oh my goodness I can’t believe I got through with all your comments. Trust me, I’m a hardcore gamer and as for most of the games mentioned, I’ve played 9 out of 10. Mabinogi is a waste of time you can’t get anywhere without money, Luna’s based off a dungeon system if I remember correctly (or was that lunia x-x) oh it’s gpotato… Not happy with them after their latest “Prius” disaster I could never get Flyff to work correctly, had too many problems with it, Maplestory (where to begin) spent 3 years on it and now it’s just getting stupid the recent “Big Bang” is rediculous they over-developed their story and aren’t letting us in on it *wah* As for Florensia and Iris Online I’ve seen them wanted to play and didn’t like the end result (can’t remember why must’ve been glitchy) I just now actually installed Legend of Edda and I enjoy it quite abit it’s super chibi which is adorable and it based of “grind quests” if you can believe it (best of both worlds). Ether Saga Online is an amazing game unless you did what I did and “glitch-level” to 94 :) then it gets boring but I got to a decent 50+ on a different character (not too happy with Perfect World Games though.. bad experiences.. Wolfteam, ECO, and Cloud Nine I have not tried.. any questions/suggestions email me ;) lovestruck.darkbb@gmail.com

    top 5 will be:
    1. Eden Eternal(aeriagames)CBT bye bye.!! OBT here we come!!!
    2. elsword (KOG:i think) and because its new and cooler than the number 3
    3. GrandChase Chaos(KOG) this game rocks though lots of changes and cash shop makes it Imbalance.
    4. LucentHearts(BeanFun)
    5. Metal Assault (Aeriagames:it brings back the old metal slug saga and converts it into MMORPG style though hackers make it boring..)

my #1 game on this list is Grand Fantasia cuz its really fun but after lvl 18 its really hard to level up and if you want a cool mount you have to buy AP (areia points) and use like 2000 of them to get a mount a costume and a bunch of other stuff. Eden etrnal should be on this list too.

Maplestory wouldn’t let me log in I tried everything.

i suggest Flyff for ppl who are patient but not for those who want to skip the tutorial and stuff like that. I suggest Wonderland Online the most because it is fun and it is easy to start playing. the bad part abt wonderland is that you have to use real money in order to get extremely good equipment, which i dont recommend. the only ones who rly need that stuff are those extreme hardcore players that are not going to quit any time soon. Still, i strongly suggest Wonderland Online <3

I played all this games before looking at the top and i’ll say that the order should be: 1.FlyFF 2.Mabinogi 3.(replacing MS because it’s an very weak game and it’s not even pure anime)Eden Eternal 4.Grand Fantasia and 5.Cloud Nine. Also ,for replacing MS,you can also look at Remnant Knights,Kitsu,Lost or Ether Sagas, because they are also great games, except Kitsu is too similar to GF

Kitsu Saga was the best anime MMORPG game i have played, but is now offline it started in 2009 and now in 2011 is down for ever why cude thay just take Grand Fantasia down Kitsu Saga had a lot more class and more stuff to do and i like the theme of japnese in it also it had a difrent class setup then your tipclle WoW layout which Eden Eternal class looks semuler to WoW Kitsu Saga is what got me in to MMORPGS that and DDO
i think i well thriy Mabinogi and then Mabinogi Heroes it is semuler to DDO and that mens no anime stiyle but i am ok on that it also has more combat move then DDO but you might need a good computer to play it and yes update the list.

I agree with the first comment. This list is pretty outdated but it does have some decent ones up there. I have played a very long range of MMORPG’S most of them being anime based, and I can never really latch myself onto any of them. For me I think my top five list would look like this

1.Eden eternal (It has a very original concept that always keeps you working towards something)

2.Mabinogi (I played this back in the day when it first came out, and boy is it hard to get good items skills and money for that matter, but I think that is good in a way. Very fun game but it is very different, which can turn some people off)

3.Flyff (This game was sheer fun! I played this after hearing about it from one of my friends and he was level 20, I started playing and I couldn’t stop! it’s just so much fun! I got to level 65 or so before I quit, up in the higher levels it really helps to have cash shop items, and I had no access to that so i stopped playing)

4.Dragonica (Okay when I first heard about this one it was hella hard to find, I downloaded some wrong version and couldn’t play so i had to redownload a different version by a company I have never heard of, but I am glad I did download it. It has a really unique concept about it, and I always wanted new titles!)

5.Grand Fantasia (I spent a lot of money on this game when i started and I don’t even play anymore, I have like over 6k gold just sitting on my account. This game was fun for me, I like to look at my character and feel good about the way I created it. I know this is a bit cliche but I stopped playing because the male sprites if you look at them closely have beer bellies….. It’s so annoying to look at all the time. All my costume items that I tried on showed my big gut, and I hated it!)

Other games in some of your lists I have tried, like Ether saga. One this about that game that I need to mention is this: There are WAAAAY too many things going on there. I mean honestly its way too cluttered. I was so lost as soon as I started the game, I didnt even want to learn about half the stuff because perfect world entertainment does that with all their games. Even perfect world…. its so cluttered with useless content, it isnt newbie friendly.

Soul master you can’t really create a character. I hate not being able to create and customize your character, or even if it’s a 1 gender class… I want to throw my fist through my computer. Especially since a lot of decent games are like that, and that is the reason why I don’t play them T.T.

    Here are my opinions :3

Maplestory: Was superrr fun for awhile, you dont need to pay for anything unless you really want to, was really cute and got me into 2D. Dont judge a game by whether its 2D or not, because I didnt want to play Maple until I decided to try it. I dont play it anymore, but I loved exploring and everything is so cute and fun. If you play, you can add me as “MillyLove”. Really awesome classes, loads of story (Like I love)…

Grand Fantasia: Spent six or so months on it, SUPER FUN, Love it so much, and although I got about 15 AWESOME friends who help me and everything, including a Brazillian girl who didnt speak my language, there are alot of sucky people on this game, a few of which scammed me horrendously, and hacked my account, stealing my gold and items >3> That kinda ruined it for me, so I stopped playing a week or two ago. So now Im looking for a new home OTL… Add me if youd like, as “Milly”, lvl 40 necro :3 OH AND THERE ARE EIGHT CLASSES. Which are so amazing, really, There are Paladins, Berskerkers, Rangers, Assasins, Clerics, Sages, Wizards, and Necromancers :D

FlyFF: Downloading right now, and I’ll get back to you on the results :3 MANY have recommended it, and honestly, who doesnt like to fly?! Im very excited, hope it doesnt disappoint me :3

Mabinogi: I. LOVE. THIS. GAME. I didnt like it at first, but I met this girl who said she was “helping nubs” xD So she spent in-game money on me, a little, and showed me the awesome basics. The great thing about this game, IT ISNT ABOUT FIGHTING. I mean, you fight, but its not ONLY fighting! Fighting nonstop gets on my NERVES. So this was so amazing for me, to fight when I want, explore different countries, cook, farm, play and compose music, make paper airplanes, decide on different races, choose from 4 classes, one of which I havent seen in a game, and explore different stories like Hamlet and the Shadow realm, transform into things, and you DONT NEED TO BUY ANYTHING. Sure, its helpful, but you dont have to :3 And thank god for the making a character glitch ;D Hinthint. This game knocks my socks off :D I plan to spend alot of money on this game, when, if ever, I get some xD I never feel like I want to spend money on a game, too :D

Cloud Nine: To be honest, it looks boring xD I might try this later, but It doesnt look very exciting >3>

Eden Eternal: I hate this game. SURE, the graphics are HEAVENLY, but the fighting and classes and everything… so annoying… In my opinion, its a horrible game and I want to uninstall it.

Dragon Nest: This game sucks too. SO limited, man. SOOOOO LIMITED. I HATE IT. DO. NOT. DOWNLOAD. I wanted to be a Cleric, but its set so only men can be warriors and clerics, and only ugly girls can be sorceresses, although the archers are cute with pigtails, I dont like the archer class in this game… I guess you can add me as “MillyLuv” but I wont be on this game at all any more :3

DOMO: This game sucks too, frankly xD I really hate the limitation, the horrid characters, and scenery, the hard controls, not many people play it so there isnt much chance for friends, This game sucks so badly, and I, thankfully, can uninstall it :D !!! I got so angry at this game that I swear I almost threw my computer :3

THIS IS THE OPINION OF A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL. So if you’re older or younger, or a man, you will probably have a different opinion :3 PLEASE GO ON MABINOGI AND SEND ME MAIL RECOMMENDING SOMETHING, as MillyLuv! Or comment here, I MIGHT check back, but Im def going on Mabi every day :3

Imagine: MegaTen – Which is based off the Shin Megami Tensei series by Atlus, there is great customization in both characters and classes, and there is certainly anime-ish influence.

The community is also very good. If you ever need help or aren’t sure how to do something, chances are someone there will try and help you out (assuming you aren’t acting like an idiot, of course). And if you happen to die, usually someone will come and revive you if you ask nicely.

Unfortunately it is a bit of a grinder, you’ll have to go through the same dungeons over and over… Though really it doesn’t matter since you’ll usually be going with a party and can chat for the entire time; half the time I don’t even notice we’re finished until the leader asks who is going again…

Additionally, a lot of the good items require AP or Aeria Points to purchase, which costs real money, or you have to farm plasmas for a long time to get several million macca (the currency) to buy them
